CORE4ELEMENT quality?

Well I finally "pulled the trigger" on a piece of Core4Element gear (have used camofire on other stuff before). They had Selway 1/2 zip shirts. I ordered a small for my son but since they were out of large (my normal t shirt size) I didn't order one for me. When it arrived I was really impressed with the apparent quality (only time will really tell) & design. My regret is that I didn't order a medium for me! Could get the small on & while a little more form fitting than I regularly wear it was wearable so a medium should have been fine!
Hope the Selway's are on again soon.
So far I'm a fan.

I have a number of pieces from them and used all last year. The merino is definitely comparatively itchy until broke in. The pants, jacket and vest have held up and performed exactly as expected. For the price on camofire, I have zero regret.

Thanks guys for all the good reviews. I too have been watching all the C4E on Camofire with an itchy trigger but haven't pulled yet. It's prolly gonna happen soon now.

Gotta thank FFparametic.
He saw my post about missing out on the medium Selway & suggested I call & see if they still had any & would sell me one at the same price. They did! I have one on the way.

Only have the Merino 190 zip-T. It's itchy (compared to my Kuiu) and shrank almost an entire size after 1 wash. Been trying to reach C4E CS and no return calls or emails. I won't be buying any more C4E without any CS support.

I don't understand everyone's issues with the customer service. I sent blackovis an email with a question, and I got a response back the next day. I have never not been able to get someone on the phone within a day of an inquiry. They will take care of any C4E issues regardless of the circumstances.

Love the camofire but before I pull the trigger do a quick google search for identical item and also add in the shipping costs more times than not the trigger does not get pulled

itchy wool

Very itchy merino wool for me. I noticed the comment above about them getting less itchy as they got broken in- do others have the same experience with this getting better as it gets broken in? I can't stand it as it is now...

I bought a merino set in December and have worn my c4e 190's to work all day in for the last three months straight, no complaints. Even wore them for a week before their first washing. Top was slightly uncomfortable first few days, but fine since. My switchbacks have been great too. C4e's sizing for their first couple years was horrible, luckily I bought everything from camofire and they took care of me. Camofire has outstanding customer service and will really go the extra mile to make your issue right in my experience, but I have no direct customer service experience with c4e.

Tried the switchback pants , did not care for the fit . Too tight for larges and my body size. Stitching ripped in the crotch after a couple of wears. Boxer briefs are ok for the price. First Lite is still worth me saving for. Just received the Kanab pants, very comfortable.

Anyone running the Element pant? Curious as to how similar / different it is from the Sitka Mountain Pant. ??? Got any good pics of how the integrated knee pads come in and out?

Thanks!

I have the element pants. They are definitely for colder weather. I wore them in a mild cold without the merino and they are kinda sweaty. I don't think these are the ticket until it gets around 30-35deg. Anything above that I go with the merino and the switchback pants. I would assume the Sitka ascent and mountain pants would be pretty similar.

I've got a lot of their stuff off camo fire and I'm pleased with it, I can later up very well with it an not be bulky, which I love cause I'm a skinny guy so I get cold in the mornings and then hike during the day scouting and get sweaty I can pack it all up then start layering back up as the sun goes down,

I bought a bunch of C4E last year and wore it all season. I will give my impressions so far:

Torrent set:
I would compare it to the Sitka Downpour set...but with pit zips. It is very quiet for rain gear, and it works well. In December...I hunted all day in the pouring rain, and it was 35 degrees. I stayed dry all day. BTW...I sold my Sitka Downpour set due to the lack of pit zips.

Element pant:
I really love these pants. I ordered a pair of Sitka 90% pants and sent them back due to fitting weird. The 90% pants only came in Medium, large, etc..and they didn't fit good in the waist. The Element pants fit perfectly in my normal pant size (2013 model). The material and overall fit were much better than the 90%. I also like the calf zipper and drawstring on the ankle. On a negative note...the zipper pull came loose from one of my back pockets...but I managed to get it back on. I also broke a snap on the cuff of the pant. Not a huge deal, but I expected better. The snaps are plastic, and I plan to replace it with a metal snap in the future. Other than that...I plan to keep these pants for a long time. If you plan on sitting for an extended period of time...I wear a pair of Outdoor Research Neoplume pants underneath and I can sit all day ( these primaloft pants can be fully unzipped on each side at the waist...allowing you to put them on without removing your outer pants...just drop your outer pants down to your knees while putting them on....works great)

Switchback pants:
These pants seem to fit somewhere between the Sitka Ascent and Mountain pants. They are really comfortable and durable. I had zero issues with these pants. They come with knee pads, but I didn't use them.

Assault and Pivot shirts:
These shirts are ok...but not as good as my Sitka. They don't have thumb loops, and the Assault shirt isn't as warm as my Sitka Traverse. My biggest complaint is the chest zipper pulls came loose on both shirts when I zipped them all the way down. I managed to get them back on after a lot of work. It seems that if you zip them down all the way...there is a tendency for the fabric to pull loose from the zipper pull. A stitch near the bottom to prevent zipping it down too far would prevent this. I plan to add this stitch before next season. I contacted C4 customer service, and they said that they were looking to correct this issue...but they never offered to send me new shirts. On that note...I was disappointed with their customer service.

Element Vest:
Nice vest..no issues to date.

Overall...I really like my C4E gear, but I am slightly annoyed by all of the zipper issues and the customer service. My favorite pieces are the rain gear and Element pants. They stopped using Mountain Mimicry...so I will likely not buy anything else.

I have the Merino tops. No complaints. I have not found them to be itchy at all. I bought a several of them as I thought durability may be an issue and the price was good. This will be season number 4 on the original two that I opened. I still have several in the packages. Haven't needed them.

I wash them in the machine with the rest of my hunting clothes and wear them from Sept through Jan. I don't dry them in the dryer. All of my stuff goes on clothes line.
