Dried pastas, with either home made or jar sauces with some meat added makes for a great hardy meal.

Tamales, freeze well and last a long time. Easy to warm up sealed in vac bags and dropped in some hot water.

Wrap potatoes in foil, can add some bacon. Bank some coals and add foil wrapped studs, go hunt. Come back to a loaded baked potato, add some butter and cheese and enjoy.

Smoked brisket, frozen with gravy in vac bags. Paired with some powdered mashed and some veggies. Enjoyed on the last day of a 10 day trip.

A Dutch Oven really allows for about any baked item that will fit into it to be baked in the bush.

Here I made from scratch biscuits, I used real buttermilk here, but I have also used powder buttermilk with good results as well.

Some sliced fresh apples, dried cherries and granola and you have a fine sweet treat.

We also never had issues but dont assume you can have fire. The year we were out in CO there was a ban on open fires as it was terribly dry. Our site did get checked by a CO as well. We did as above as well as one day during the week we took off after the morning hunt, showered in town, washed clothes, got more block ice and cubed ice for beverages and went back. We all brought frozen spaghetti, Venison stew, various pre-cooked meals frozen. I also hunted with a "master chef" as we called him that had everything ready in freezer bags and just put them in a turkey fryer with water and boiled them. No pots or pans to clean up, it tasted awesome! He mad biscuits and gravy, pork chops, steaks, eggs, you name it and it was quick and hot and very good with nothing but freezer bags and paper plates to take care off afterwords.

Bottom line - tons of options out there. I wouldnt even bother with the mountain house meals for a base camp.

I kind of planned on losing weight while hiking around all day, but after seeing some of these meals it may be the opposite!

Sounds like your biggest concern might be ice loss in your coolers??? I can't say enough how much something simple like taking an empty orange juice jug, filling with water and freezing and them having one or two of those in a cooler of ice helps keep the ice a long, long time. As mentioned block ice does the same thing, but can be more difficult to find.

I have a 6 Gallon water jug frozen in my chest freezer right now. I will put that into my Yeti when I leave for the North Slope next week and I will still have ice 2 week later.

Another excellent way to do baked potatoes is to bake them at home in tin-foil. Put them in the icebox in a ziploc bag so they don't get wet. Just take them out and heat them up over the coals or on the grate. They only need heated up and don't take near as long to do as it is to bake them fresh!!
