Consensus on 156 Berger’s?

Killed a couple antelope and mule deer with them this year. Everything died with one shot besides a muley. A bad first shot on that one. A Texas heart shot killed it. Kills were from 245-690 yards. Besides the bad shot nothing ran further than 25 yards from impact. About 3k muzzle velocity.

I’ve used them previous years and same same. No surprises so far.

this is an entry from a 156 Berger shot him
Up hill bullet exited and left about the same size hole on exit and he was dead within seconds. I really like them and they are very accurate. IMG_5700.jpeg

I have killed 4 deer and a bear with them. Going about 2920 FPS. They have performed great even at very close range of about 60 yards. Average shot has been about 250 and the exit is always a baseball size hole. Animals have died very quickly.

That’s a beauty of an entrance, especially if it maintained and exited the same way
Ya he didn’t go far. He was moving pretty quick but not a dead run when I made the shot and dropped within 20 yards. The other buck I shot with the 156s didn’t exit but turned his lungs to jello and dropped on the spot. I really like this bullet and can’t wait to shoot an elk with this combo.

A few deer inside 250 yards, typical berger performance.

Mountain goat with impact velociy of 2,300fps was a little different then typical berger performance i have experienced. First shot was 12 ring, caliber size entrance and small exit, didn't seem like a lot of internal damage, goat seemed unfazed. 2nd shot was facing almost dead on towards me, slightly angled. Bullet drove the length of the goat and I found some of the jacket in it's rear ham when cutting up the meat. Third shot was more or less a mercy kill in his bed, top of lung and spine, no exit bullet came apart on spine.

Mule Deer Doe offhand @ 60 yards, POI center lungs broadside to avoid the groceries... impact velocity 2900 FPS, Caliber entry, golf ball exit, hit rib in and out. Jump, spin in circle, died.

Mountain Goat Nanny @ 550 yards, POI diaphram broadside, poor wind call and extreme angle, impact velocity 2350 FPS, caliber entry, no exit... rodeo, cliffs, recovered following day, died within an hour.

Antelope Buck @ 1080 yards, POI neck/shoulder juntion boadside, missed wind by 1/4 MOA, impact velocity 1840 FPS, Caliber entry, golf ball exit, through spine, DOI.

Appreciate the info!! I do trim my Berger tips (mostly an OCD thing) which opens them up nicely and provides a consistent, exposed hollow point. They are definitely more consistent down range than other bullets. I love the killing of ELDM’s, but Berger’s always seem to outshoot them, especially at distance.

I think you are smart to do that and smart to push them hard, like you planned. I helped a buddy recently who sunk a bunch into an elk and think he would have had better results had he done so or just ran the 147m.

Got more details on the kill? Impact velocity and damage and what not?

400ish yards and every shot/wound channel was lethal but the kill was prolonged and I expected a little more damage. That may be a me thing with my expectations but I stray a bit from the RS smaller caliber niche even thought he first 7 or so elk I killed with a .270 and still love that gun.

I don't have photos or more details.

Yeah I think we have similar views for sure. I just can't help but test new things, and this cartridge/bullet/speed/recoil level is intriguing me enough to want to see it in action first hand haha.

I've only seen 6 animals killed with them 1 buck myself. Everything died quickly. Decent sized entry and 2" exit on most of those. The was one pronghorn shot it the guts that left a much bigger exit.

From people’s killing experience with the 156 Berger’s, what’s your thoughts on the performance? Also, if you have some lower impact velocity kills/wound pics that would be helpful also.

Considering trying them for the season, or at least a few hunts anyways. Starting with TX aoudad in 2 weeks.
