Congrats. USPS….

About two years ago I needed to send a letter overnight to FL from NC. When I spoke to the clerk she asked me Sat or Mon. delivery (this was Tues.). I said what about overnight? She said oh no. $20.00
About a month ago I sent an envelope size package to a friend of mine in PA. It first went to Seattle, WA then spent a few days in MO, then to Scranton, PA (45 miles from delivery address) then to Jersey City, NJ where it stayed for 5 days. Then finally delivered, Two weeks total $8.00

In my experience USPS quality is very dependent on your local post office and the main sorting hub it goes through.

Some places seem to have a minimum 2 week delay before it’s misdelivered to your neighbor, while others show up on time or even early, without issue. The real issue is that those poorly run places never seem to improve and why would they, structurally there is no incentive for them to change.

I bought a rifle from a guy once. He sent it USPS. It was in a metal vanguard case, had $1000 worth of insurance on it to boot. They backed over it with a car. Could see the tire marks on the case even. Cracked the stock and wrecked the scope. Spent 2 months submitting and appealing the insurance claim. They told me they needed the gun for the claim I said “no fckn way” since it had a 4473 in my name. Gave them the stock, case and scope. They never did pay. Went back in to get the remaining stuff from them and they had lost it. Now I have a barreled action that cost me way way too much time and money. If you ever do send something USPS, don’t bother with insurance. There is a zero percent chance they’ll pay you. If you do finally get them to pay, you’ll have way more time and effort into it then it’s worth.
Same thing happened to my father when he had a 1930’s 410 shipped. USPS broke the stock. They needed to have the gun to destroy for him to collect his claim.
Being the collector he is he couldn’t let that happen. So now I have a lever action 410 with a cracked stock thanks to the usps.
