This is a long but an excellent read, the adult Disney land of Dubai, that the rich and famous flock to is being build by slave labor, yet not one of those people ever speak out against what is going on there today. They love to criticize things that happened years ago here but ignore something they could actually do something about.

Maybe the language of my initial post is a little misleading/misunderstood. I don't think that the fact that NK is a dumpsterfire has been censored or swept under the rug.

I was referring to a lot of the things Yeonmi says she receives push back on as being ignored. My thoughts would probably make a lot more sense after actually listening to it.

I mean…this has been well known for decades. If you’re getting your news from Joe Rogan I think you need to reevaluate your sources of information.

Plenty of reputable global security/political science journals out there.
I'm not getting my news from Joe Rogan, but sadly he's probably a better news source than 90% of the typical media which just pushes an agenda.

Secondly, Joe is just facilitating a conversation. He's not the news source. The 80 pound woman who escaped from that hell is.

24 hours straight hiking though the desert to Mongolia at 40 below zero with no gloves, a thin jacket, a baby, and ways to kill yourself if you get caught.

Enjoy your Sitka!

I mean in the media and social circles. Why do I have to dig up a buried podcast to learn about this stuff? I listen to the news for at least 30 minutes practically every day for the last 8 years and never knew this.

If the Nazis were building concentration camps again, it would be the biggest story in the world. We're too busy crying about "oppression in America" and trying to turn our country into a communist nation.
The China/Xinjiang/Uyghur issue has been a weekly topic for 2 months on Reuters.

Nazi concentration camps were not constant headline news at the time. In fact most people don't know just how okay America was, to the point of turning away Jewish refugees and sending them back to Germany. Read up on the German American Bund sometime and take a temperature for how split the US was on the issue. At the same time the US and the other colonial powers pretty well ignored what Japan was doing in China because it was pretty close to what we were doing in the Philippines and other colonies or had done to Native Americans in the US. The idea for concentration camps was copied from America and Britain. Then we did it to Americans of Japanese descent.

Conversely, human rights groups have been talking about the Uyghur and Rohinga for a decade constantly. JRE is the most listened to podcast in the world, so calling it buried is sort of like saying My. Rushmore is a hidden relic. Park also has a book about her experience, from a quick search I see interviews with her on Fox, CNN, the Guardian, she was one of the BBC's 100 Women, she gave a TED talk. This isn't being hidden from you, but your media diet didn't include it. Now maybe it's because you're spending 4 hours listening to Rogan instead of a diverse media diet, maybe you just forgot.

There is nothing new under the sun.

We will see this kind of darkness ebb and flow around the world until everyone is too busy with their own suffering to worry about people halfway around the world.

The lessons of the 20th century will be forgotten and then we will all get a taste.

It shouldn't take much knowledge of current events or historical events to make you feel the necessity of being prepared.

And that is not even the real news story. The real story is that the United States continues to do business with a country that is committing genocide. Imagine if we still bought goods coming from Germany while they were putting Jews in gas chambers.

Henry Ford and Charles Lindbergh famously advocated for the Nazis to America, endosring the American Bund (the American Nazi party) and calling for the US to aid or at least stay out of the war with Germany, even after Kristallnacht.

It was the invasion of Poland and Britain invoking their existing treaty, not the gas chambers that caused the US to end trade with Germany in 1939. As mentioned, we continued to send Jewish refugees back to Germany, relying on immigration quotas as an excuse.

Definitely didn't expect to receive pushback on this subject. Don't really understand it.

This is almost as good as the time I suggested Stone Glacier sell their products in a color other than grey! I wish that thread wasn't locked - it was getting good! :ROFLMAO:

Because you come across as extremely naive to what’s going on in the world and here in America.

I've just read this thread....I'm not seeing what I would consider "pushback". The majority sentiment seems to be that this is well-known and I would agree with that. It's not been a secret and has been well-reported in my opinion that NK engages in torture, slavery, and mass-murder and has for a LONG time.

The unfortunate reality is that if the US got involved in every arena where human rights abuses are currently occurring we wouldn't have any resources left to protect ourselves.
