Comparable Point of Impact .308 loads

I’ve got a Ruger American .308 1 in 10 barrel. Barrel has been cut and re-crowned at 16.25”. It’s a hand mountain/backpacking rifle that shoots good for the money. I’d like to get a couple of different loads worked up that shoot the same zero at 100yds. Looking at a 150gr hornady BT and a 130gr Speer soft point brush bullet. I hunt white tails in the east and one of the areas I hunt I could take a 400yd shot or turn around, walk 50’ and make a 25yd shot through brush. I’d like to have the ability to keep a mag loaded with each load just in case. Maybe I’m not typing the right wording in the Google to find anything. Anybody got any input or load suggestions?

I think you are over thinking it. Any advantage you gain by having a slightly different bullet for each application is outweighed by the likely inconsistent POI of different bullets. A whitetail isn’t going to know the difference. I’d pick one bullet, zero your rifle and go hunting.

178g eldx one and done

Hunt with a bergara 308. I've shot 8 animals (elk, deer, antelope) between last season and right now first week of October with factory Hornady eldx stuff. It's coming out at 2601fps. The closest shot was 30yds and the farthest has been 380ish. That bullet hammers everything, if I hit vitals they turn to soup and things die. No pass through on anything (even at 30yds) and a bullet sized entry hole.

Took 2 antelope today one at 120ish and the other at 200ish both walked 5yds maybe and died.

Maybe I am overthinking it. I just like to tinker with stuff.

I appreciate the input though. I’ve got some of the 150’s my gun seems to like. I guess I’ll just dial in a load on it. I’ve always shot partitions, never really messed with ballistic tips.

Functional simplicity is elegance in designing a system.
I like to tinker as well.
I save it for the range and dialing in the "perfect" combination.
I have never had luck using different bullet and powder combos to achieve a similar POI.

I load the 139 SST for my practice rounds and am loading the 139 interbond for large game. Have shot quite a few of each and the POI remains quite consistent. That was the point of my consideration Of each.

I agree that having slightly different bullets is more trouble than its worth. A single bullet will perform the same in either situation. If your hunting loads use expensive bullets that you don't want to shoot a lot for practice, what is worth it is working up a target load with the same POI as your hunting load. In my 30-06, i have a 168 gr TTSX hunting load and a 168 gr match king load that have similar BC and same POI at 100 yards. I makes getting lots of practice in without spending a shitload of money on copper much easier.

Ended up going with a store bought load for this year. My rifle has a 16.25” barrel 1/10 twist. I’ll probably work up a 150gr partition load with flake powder after the deer/bear season.
