I’ve recently switched over to the vortex UHD 18x56 binos for the bulk of my glassing.
I’m struggling with picking out a spotter to add to my pack.
Was thinking about a mid size scope but a lot of people seem happy with the razor hd 13-39x56.
I’m just looking for something with a little more power to verify buck/bull quality at distance on back pack hunts.
Do any of you feel that you need more than the 13-39 razor, or do you think it’d be fine for 90+% of the time?

I have a compact Leupold spotter. It's definitely not as good as a full size spotter and you wouldn't want to spend too much time looking through it. But it also typically gets the job done and magnifies the object you've spotted in the binoculars such that you can better identify or size it. The compact spotter weighs much less, take much less room in your pack, and requires much less tripod to use effectively.

Really depends on your intended use.
I have a Kowa 554 and 10x42 binos that easily cover 90% of my needs.
Using a spotter in bigger country, scanning or judging animals, you would probably want more power, but that comes with a weight penalty.

Your 18x56 binoculars should be more than enough to tell whether a buck is a shooter. For me, the added weight and bulk of carrying a spotting scope just isn’t worth the small benefit it provides.

In my limited experience, I don’t think a mid size has much utility. It’s not light enough to justify me packing it, and it lacks the punch of a full size for when at the truck.
