Heading to steamboat springs in a couple days just wondering what the weather is like out there? Is it dry or have they had rain? Any bugles yet?

How much difference will it be at 8 to 10 elevation compared to town

I use the "storm" weather app that lets you fine tune a pin drop for better accuracy in the high country.

This for up above steamboat and is pretty typical for this time of year

For a quick rule of thumb, subtract 3.3°F for every 1K feet of elevation gain.

Not Steamboat, but I was in the Wyo. Thorofare at 8900 ft. last weekend for 4 days and every night got down to 32-34!

I spoke to my outfitter several days ago (he's in Chama, but has bowhunters in Colorado/Ranch unit 78/81). He said the temps in the morning are about 30, but it warms up to 70 in the day. Quite a bit of rain throughout the last couple of weeks.

It hasn't gotten quite that cold yet, we are in Chama right now eating lunch and it's pretty warm. Yesterday morning it was 37 when we got out, felt pretty good. We are hunting those same areas, going to try our luck in 81 tonight.

Good luck. I guess I should have added that his Colorado ranch where he hunts starts at about 9000 and tops off about 10400. It is behind the Oso Del Pardo area off of 17. He lives in Chama which is at 7850, so I don't know how much difference the higher altitude will make.

By the way, where y'all eating lunch? I can send you to the right places. I have been going there for 27 years.

Yeah we ended up getting our butts kicked and went ahead and tucked our tails and went home. We hunted at red lake a couple days which for me is a super hard climb. I feel like I'm going to die by the time I get up there. We stayed at the branding Iron inn in Chama, if anyone ever needs a room to relax in I recommend them. I hope everyone who hunts that area has better luck than we did. Also I have a couple of good maps of that area, if some one needs them let me know and I can send them to some one who might use them.

Use all of your gathered knowledge on the area, and hit 'em hard next year !! Good luck !! Branding Iron is a decent spot to stay. The restaurant used to get pretty crowded, but they haven't been open in years. I usually stay South of the "T" at the Vista Del Rio. Breakfast is at Fina's, lunch at JV's, and dinner at High Country or Felicianos Pizza. Occasionally hit the Elkhorn Restaurant, but they are hit or miss, so not our favorite.
