People wonder why we've started removing threads like this... Guy posts and ghosts then 5 years later someone digs it up to post and ghost as well.
Thank you for your service as an administrator on this forum and, specifically, moderating this thread and appropriately responding. This thread is a prime example of the repetitive “FNG, unit number, application season, not looking for a honey hole” scenario that plays out.

Perhaps this thread could be locked, made a sticky (if possible, don’t think I’ve seen that here on RS often), and linked to in the rules as an example of how this situation plays out time and time again.

Thanks!

Maybe you can show them how it's supposed to be done?
Step 1. Join as many random Internet forums as possible to ask for help

Step 2. Assure everyone on said Internet forums that you only need them to plan your access, tell you what week to hunt, explain what the terrain is like, and tell you where to camp….NOT honey holes.

Step 3. Get angry when strangers don’t give you all the answers you want.

Step 4. Go hunt anyway.

Step 5 (this is the most important). Never ever ever go back to any of the threads you started/asked for help on. Never ever ever visit any of those Internet forums to give advise to anyone else. And for the love of all that is holy….don’t post a trip recap or thank anyone for any info that was given to you.

Step 6. Do this again under a different name when you are about to draw another tag 4 years from now.

Another keyboard warrior coming out of the woodwork… For the record, I’m not mad nobody wants to share their advice, I respect that. But the immediate attacking and labeling for an initial post is a little unwelcoming. And probably explains why the only people left on this site are dicks lol.

I commented on a post from a guy that hunted the unit I plan to go to 5 years ago. Anyone that’s hunted elk knows that even the following season things change. Was just looking to connect with someone that might give a little helpful advice on a few questions I have to get started on my search within the unit. As I said before, cut everyone some slack, we’re playing on the same team with the same goals. But maybe I’m naive to think that? Lot of selfish hunters out there.

Am I at 10 posts yet?

@Embrkwld it seems you've taken this thread personally but you shouldn't. I cut and pasted the following from the Rokslide rules and guidelines.

Welcome to Rokslide. You should take an opportunity to look around a bit and you'll find this community is pretty awesome.

Now unfortunately we aren't letting FNG's (new guys) post up unit specific questions. Any unit question/answers remain out in the world wide webs forever, which can doom some really great spots.

Rokslide's administrations expectation is that all long standing Rokslide members will understand and support this concept and take all such conversations to private message.

Yes it's a hassle to join and be part of this community but the rewards are worth the effort including the ability to send and receive private messages.

Hope to see you active in the forums, and good luck on your hunt!

Look around you'll quickly notice there are no unit specific threads, in fact we painstakingly edit out such information from previous thread such as this.

You don't realize it yet but not allowing specific unit information to be posted on the world wide web is a great gift that we can give follow hunters.

It's helps avoid spotting units but also allows for the opportunity to figure it out your self which is in of itself greatly satisfying. Of course every now and then people need a nudge in the right direction, and the Rokslide community still gives out time and time again, only now that information is exchanged via private messages.

I haven’t taken anything personally. Matter of fact, I would say that everyone that initially attacked me took things pretty personally.

With that being said, I can respect rules of the forum. And I appreciate your response. Had your response been the first to my message, I think my reaction would have been completely different.

I love helping people on forums, do it all the time. Currently helping a guy on HT pick through some units for his first elk hunt, through DMs. But as many dozens of guys that I’ve helped through either Rokslide, HT, or CWT you know how many have actually reported back to me how it went? Two. Well under 10%. Every guy says they’re different, experience says otherwise. It’s pretty easy to tell which guys are the exception based on how they react to some harmless FNG jabs.

Feel free to DM me if you have any specific questions. I think I remember which unit this one was about so I might be able to help.

For bonus points / extra credit, use the following in the request for information: honey hole, military service, taking a kid out hunting, taking Dad out for his last hunt…..
