Hunted this unit last year with very little action during the pre rut...I’ll be there during the peak rut this time around. Any info I can get from some hunters would be much appreciated.
You watch a YouTube channel!!! They’ll tell you. Lol no seriously. Usually around the fall equinox, but there’s cow’s coming in way before that sometimesHow do you know when peak rut will happen?
Is 52/521/411 an unlimited otc or is there some sort of cap on tags?

What info are you looking for? The Grand Mesa Units are, in my experience, hard to find the elk. Its big country, heavily hunted and recreated, and overall not in my top 20 units to spend my elk season. There are elk, and I have had luck cow hunting here and 421......but not what your probably hoping for in an elk experience.
do tell, what are your top 20 ?....do you have GPS coordinates??? LOL

LololI hear the CPW evicted all the elk out of 521, no point in going there.
So Sept 22 to 23 is the target date. But actual breeding in my experience starts way before that and then cows that aren't bred will come into heat again in October. The October thing is very hit and miss. How do you know when peak rut will happen?
Everyone I see hunting in 521 uses an off road vehicle of some type, or at least I see a lot of them....
This. That unit is over run with sheep, hunters, hikers, mountain bikers, 4 wheelers. There are far better places to chase elk OTC in the state. Lions and bears have been hammering the elk and deer herds. They are in pretty sad shape. What info are you looking for? The Grand Mesa Units are, in my experience, hard to find the elk.
