Colorado Unit 3 Which Rifle Season is best?

Hello all,

I am looking at hunting elk near Craig Colorado this fall. I will have access to a small amount of private ground with alfalfa, an approximately 20,000 acres of land locked public ground.

My question, which rifle season do you all suggest? 1st,2nd,3rd,or 4th? I heard this area may be tough until snow falls as the animals will be at high altitude earlier in the year. What is everyones thoughts?

Unit 3 is typically better in the later seasons. As you said, most of the elk are up high in unit 4 in the earlier season and they will move down with the snow. If I was going to go there based on your description, I would go 4'th season.

1st & 4th season is a draw. And the deadline to apply has passed.
Unless you get a leftover tag, or get a Landowner tag, you need to choose 2nd or 3rd OTC season
