I put in the miles over the weekend and didn’t hear a dang thing in the mountains. My partner did the same but by dumb luck shot a decent gobbler.

he came into a decoy silent with a few hens and a jake. there were 3 or 4 toms gobbling on the roost but there were interested in coming to calls or so i thought lol.

I heard some flap down, but not a single gobble heard. Similar to your experience.

Do they normally follow the snowline out West? I’m hunting Easterns down South, so it’s a totally different ballgame and approach.

yes they follow the green grass up to their summer range similar to elk and deer. ive never hunted easterns. i have family in Missouri that has a ground to turkey hunt on so i am going to go next year i think.

i think they are just out of sorts but only time will tell.

I hunted this weekend and have scouted a few evenings the last two weeks. I haven't heard much on the limb, but town birds have been gobbling pretty regularly. From what I've seen, they all have hens. I'm sure it will pick up over the next couple of weeks.

i have a tag in wyoming. im leaving next weekend. im interested to see how the winter has the birds acting up there.

I put in 6+ miles last Saturday and didn't hear a thing. Headed out tomorrow and hoping this recent weather gets them talking a little bit.

Look for areas with pine trees and oak brush. If there's area with decent size meadows Tom's like to strut in them in the mornings.

I killed a bird Sunday, fair amount of gobbling, day before season scouting I am pretty sure the same bird was tearing it up!

16 miles opening day and another 7.5 to 8 Sunday!

Open parks, burns and timber harvest areas are best, killed mine in a recent clear cut, like this winter recent!

New Mexico, I was where he wanted to be for the most part, he had hens so I was not aggressive!

I took my me on the west slope a few days ago. Heard a few distant gobbles shortly after shooting light, but they have become significantly less vocal after opening weekend. No response to crow, owl, or turkey calls. The bird I got was in a flock with a few other Jake’s and hens and never made a sound. I found a spot they were using to go between roost and higher ground for the day and got him as they were on the morning commute.
