There's a bunch of decent deer tags this year, but they don't interest me much.

Agreed. They interest me very much but I already have my deer A-tag. There is a leftover for a 4th season hunt in the unit I have a 2nd season- I wish I could just trade it!

Are left over tags returnable? From what I gather, they are not. Thinking of trying for 3 of us to grab a leftover instead of going OTC. If only 1 or 2 get one,it would suck if non returnable.

More than 30 days before the season dates they can be returned.

I'm feeling pretty lucky! I got an archery deer tag in a unit I'm excited for! It was what I had pegged as my 3rd choice heading into it.

I'd heard about the website crashing in previous years, but the queue system they had and the loading screen explaining it worked really nicely for me. I definitely had to wait for loading as I moved through the process, but as someone who works in web-based software development, my experience today was totally as good as I could have expected given the context.

It even had a pleasant “ding” when you were being redirected.

I agree- they really improved their system significantly. In years past I would be locked out of it completely for long periods of time, unable to get anything to even load.

This year, it was definitely a little slow, but at least it worked and you knew you wouldn't be getting the "spinning wheel of death" for 30 minutes.

Kudos, CPW.

I picked up a late season Cow tag and a random Turkey tag for the unit that I'll be scouting deer in. I have NO IDEA how to hunt turkey, haha.

I think the system worked better as well. I went in person and was first in line, by 9:03 we had already looked at choices for deer, elk and antelope but unfortunately they were all gone by then. system seemed to work faster, but the overwhelming demand still screwed me....

Wow I tried getting on at 9 MT and by 9:09 I was through all the screens and the 3 elk tags I tried for were gone

I was after an elk tag. I do very well in the unit. I took my biggest bull there a few years ago. Patience is the key there.
