Glad it was a safe outcome. I would like to know more details such as was it a solo hike, what gear and experience did the hiker have.

From the pictures I think I know where he was and he seemed to get off trail. He might actually be fortunate that his shoes froze, easily could have kept wandering and ended up lost the willows.

I read the article. Can someone elaborate on how his shoes froze to the ground?
All I can think of is he wore something like a trail runner or some type of shoe that just held moisture and froze solid. Some articles made it sound like his shoes froze to the ground which I doubt

Right? Even if they held moisture, how long do you have to stand still to freeze to the ground??

That’s a good point. I’m thinking the article meant to say his feet got so cold that he lost sensation therefore couldn’t walk. Or it does seem to happen at least once a year somebody with improper footwear post holes their shoe comes off as they raise their leg and now they are left with just a sock.

Not the most eloquently written article....it doesn't make much sense, this frozen foot/shoe to the ground thing.

The article linked in this thread was painful to read, but all the other ones I’ve read paint the same picture of feet frozen to the ground. Not sure why more details don’t get published not to shame people, but just as pointers for the rest of us that could possibly prevent someone else from getting into trouble.

Glad it all worked out. But how the f do your shoes freeze to the ground and you're not strong enough or have the tools to un-freeze them?

Some dude cut his arm off with a dull pocket knife what, 15 years ago in Utah?
This dude's "feet froze to the ground" and he couldn't chip the ice?
Are we really this soft now? Or is this a poorly reported story...
