Colorado High Country Summer Camping...Bugs?

What are the bugs like in mid-July around 11000 feet? Would you run a floorless shelter without a bug net/bivy? Was really hoping I could take my tarp versus my tent but I'll pack the extra couple pounds if need be.

Depending on the timing and location, the mosquitoes will drive you out. I love mid summer camping trips, but those dang skeeters ruin it every time. A few years ago I was trying to set up camp at 11,400 feet at 2 in the afternoon in early August. I had to scrap it and make a run for the truck as they were swarming, and I wasn't even within 1/2 mile of any water.

Yeah, this would be by a lake with some timber around.

I haven't run floorless for a few years, except late season hunting and winter, and mosquitoes are the reason.
