I’m am considering doing a OTC elk rifle hunt this year if a few things workout for me. Would be flying from Florida to Colorado into Denver. Would be my first time for this would it be best to truck camp and stay mobile or would hiking into a unit be better? I know the weather would be a lot different than it is in September.

Another vote for truck camping. I wouldn’t recommend spending the time or energy hiking into somewhere if you don’t have specific knowledge that elk are there or could be there. Expect to hike and glass a lot but once you start running into elk, make note of those spots and then decide in future years if it’s worth spike camping in there. You might be surprised how close elk can be to your truck camp.

sometimes the best spots are a good day hike away. Scout a few days before season. Afterall, it's a short season.
