The thing is the single fastest growing group of hunters causing excess pressure is the Archery hunters! I’m not saying the rifle seasons aren’t a shit show too but the studies show that the archery hunters are the fastest growing group. IMO they have to stop selling unlimited OTC archery and rifle tags to non-res, as long as Colorado is allowing everyone from all 50 states to be able to hunt elk with no limit it’s going to be a shit show.

Rifle tags were already cut back in the SW in 2018. I don’t see why archery vs. rifle would be much of an issue here since 1st and 2nd rifle seasons are already limited (and recently reduced) vs unlimited archery tags and the change in status from OTC to draw would eliminate OTC 3rd and 4th rifle tags in these same units. While archers would get a reduction in OTC opportunity, so would rifle hunters.

If the CPW would just implement a mandatory harvest reporting, they wouldnt have this 'knee jerk' reaction BullSh!t, as they would already know the elk herds arent at objectives.

This is surprising. Harvest data would seem to be a top priority if you planned to actually manage the resource/herd.

A middle school kid could develop a phone app to check in harvested animals. Oklahoma's e-check system is pretty simple even for old guys. And it's nice having all the rules and regs right on your phone.

Yup, Wisconsin has online reporting too. Very easy to use. The issue we have, is that guys simply don't report their kills. I like the New Mexico system, where if you don't submit a hunting report (successful or otherwise) you cant apply the following year.

Lifelong Colorado big game hunter, and resident. All I can say is I have watched the crowded from 10 years ago turn into a whole new definition these last few years. Its getting ridiculous how many people are out there in the OTC units. Even when you draw a prime tag for one species in a great unit, if there is a concurrent season for another species going on, dont expect to be alone!

Great example is a hard to draw deer tag during an OTC elk hunt or high tag number unit that is draw. It gets frustrating, your spots get blown, game cameras get stolen, and coolers dont get filled!
