Hey, I'm gonna try to snag a Class B cow archery tag this year in Colorado. I've gotten bulls last two years in first rifle, but know very little about archery hunting for a cow. My plan is to backpack several miles, preferably in a wilderness area. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

During archery season, find the bulls and you'll find the cows. Utilize cow calls and bugles to locate a herd, then slip in front and wait for a cow to pass. I would also spend time glassing meadows and transition areas where cows are more likely to be feeding/passing through.

Yep, I'd hunt cows the same way I hunt bulls. I'm covered up in cows every year trying to get that shot at the herd bull. Find a herd bull and you shouldn't have any problems getting any cow you want.

I don't know anything about calling. What's the best way to locate a herd bull in archery season? Thanks.

I'd start by watching some videos that introduce elk calling. What they sound like and when to use them. Randy Newburg has some good ones on Youtube. In my experience, just pursuing a bull frequently puts me in positions to shoot cows. If you can get into the elk, you'll be set!

Roger that. Thank you.

Lost cow mews can work wonders too! I pulled two cows back 2x in 15 mins for my wife last year. She never got a clean shot but having elk run in to 10-20 yards is a pretty amazing experience
