Colorado bear, black on the outside, white in the middle

Got a nice black bear on Thursday night and did some lard rendering on Friday am before heading home. Usually use bear lard for biscuits on special weekend mornings and 3 quarts will last us a year. It keeps great in the fridge.



Kind of nice to utilize something I had always read about the old timers doing. Supposed to be great leather treatment, but I like to eat it too much. Steaks marinating now and looking forward to more hunts.
 
I too have some bear fat in the freezer...... for pie crusts.
Back when I worked in timber industry, I used to wipe my White boots down with bear grease to water proof them.

The black part of said bear. About a 225 pound female. Not real big of course but very happy with her.
