Cold Weather Layering for a Floridian

hey norm!
i recently took my friend from florida ice fishing this past season in northeastern ontario. one thing i learned from watching him freeze was get good warm boots and good gloves, if you're not hiking too far i reccomend baffin titans. by far the best bang for your buck for warm boots. without my spare set my friend wouldnt have made it. with warm hands and warm feet you'd be surprised how much you can put up with in between.
best of luck!

Honestly - if you are spending the trip in a blind, I would go with an IWOM, or an Artic Shield warmbag. Either of those will keep you warm and comfy without dropping a ton on gear that you'll likely never use again.
Great suggestion for the OP right here. I was going to suggest Feathered Friends pants and a jacket, but that puts him well over $1,000 for equipment he may never use again.

ok i will give you some hints get a backpack to change your base layers or socks if they are wet and have some extra layers fittable if you need to protect you from the cold. or remove some if too warm ... but i doubt for you it will happen lol

-20c is not that take lightly and do not hesitate to tell the guide/outfitter if you are cold ... the fun will be gone.

have fun getting the preparation but so far i can t think of winter yet lol ...

Boots are number six on your original list, not first, and then you describe a pair I wouldn't wear in the woods in Minnesota past November 1, if that. Tell me you're from Florida without saying it out loud. ;-)

To prove I'm not actually mean-spirited but concerned about your frostbite risk – listen to the advice about bunny boots. An acquaintance in AK wore his Sorels (back when these were reliable) on a hunt when he should have worn his bunny boots. For years after, the images of his pre-operative and post-operative feet traveled the country to various medical conferences, in the company of the leading AK orthopedic surgeon who performed the surgery.

People will tell you bunny boots will be overkill. They're not from Florida unaccustomed to cold, they haven't been to Manitoba in November and they're not walking in your shoes. If by any chance your feet will fit a size 11, I have an extra pair I would be happy to send you, for the cost of the shipping. They aren't pretty, they are pretty old, but they will absolutely positively prevent frostbite in all the conditions you will encounter.
