ok so i have a dilemma this year and would like to hear What Would You Do
CO (resident) state sitting in that mid-tier point level, there's a unit that i've been wanting to hunt Archery originally (guaranteed at my point level now) but now i'm at 50% chance (if i predict point creep correctly) for a muzzleloader tag in that same unit. i never done Elk Muzzy hunt so am very interested.

WY (non-res) i have 6 points, looking at LY odds i should draw Gen-S most likely and Gen-W even more likely. being in Denver i like the idea of Gen-S for two reasons: no Grizz and i can scout and get up there every week

DILEMMA is around App / Modification /Result deadlines.
WY i have to commit by 2/2, latest to modify or withdraw 5/8, results 5/21
CO (have not released dates yet, but looking at past years +/1 a day) App deadline 4/1, Results end of May/Early June.

So basically i have to commit to both and have no chance to modify either as they will release around same time
WY i would add on Archery stamp and hunt both archery/rifle / late rifle(cow) if needed so i definitely will have plenty of time in field.
CO i would probably break Muzzy 9 day hunt into 4 & 4 day hunts, with 1 day back in office/home, this would basically kill my WY archery option (wife and i have agreement that unless its OIL tag i only get 2 weekends per month away from home/family)
i'd hate to sit out WY another year and then also Not draw my desired 1st choice CO tag.

so WWYD ?

I’d take the sure thing in WY this year. Point creep for a resident can’t be that bad, check the odds on what happened this year for your desired unit…if they get a ton worse, just go back to your archery tag there which is a lock.

No use getting the wife worked up with tenths for sure.

Don't assume anything in today's environment. Put in for both tags and see what you get. Two tags are better than none. I should already have 2 elk hunts on the books for this fall but I am still applying for other hunts, albeit more difficult to draw ones like sheep tags or high end other species. Don't be afraid to go hunting.

You’re going to draw WY, so if the worry is two tags, you could always dump the Colorado tag and get your points back if you draw. That is if you don’t want two tags in the same year.
I want multiple tags I just don’t want to burn points on both especially as their seasons overlap. I could turn CO tag in but I’d miss out on earning a point this year and probably won’t have enough next year.
I agree with what everyone is saying: WY being sure thing I may go for that tag. While then picking up 2nd choice/leftover/otc CO tag where seasons don’t overlap so I can give both my full attention n effort.

Right I’LL still have a CO tag I just won’t burn points on it m. That’s the big dilemma if I should or not burn points on bull tags in two states on overlapping seasons.
So I think I’ll go for WY Gen S or W tag and then try for my desired CO next year.
But I’ll still get 2nd choice or leftover/otc CO tag. And same as you I’m still applying in one other state for Bull tag

I'd go for both and renegotiate with the wife to hunt wy archery too. You could argue the CO tag is OIL, cause if it's mid tier now, its top tier the next time.
CO isn't getting easier, I could have drew the tag I wanted 2 years ago, and now with point creep, I'm not even 100%, It's gaining faster than 1pt a year in some units.

😂 2 weekends is pretty good already with kid n all. Weekdays is a different story since kid is In Daycare she actually doesn’t mind if I hunt all week just needs help on weekends. But then I run into PTO limits.
If I only hunted Elk archery then yes I could make that argument for all of Sept being hunt focused but I’ll also have deer buck tags, pronghorn buck/doe, elk cow and any other tags I may get lucky n draw. So my Sept/Oct/Now/Dec I’m gone a lot.
Nov technically has 5 weekends in that month so I may try for 3 weekends of hunting that month.

"So basically i have to commit to both and have no chance to modify either" this isn't quite true, though. Colorado has a return process (and doesn't Wyoming as well?) You can return the tag not only for the refund but also points restoration as long as you do it before the deadline. File for both and decide which to keep once you get the results.

Right I thought I briefly touched on that.
I know I could return my tag and get points back. But when you do that you don’t earn a point for that season which then definitely puts me point behind for the following season
