The feet are just gunna suck. Thats why big guys dont walk for long and why trekking poles help.

Ice and rest, ice and rest. One thing you gotta remeber too is in a hunting situation your not just balls ti the wall hiking. Take rest and plan the hike accordingly and itll help your feet as well

It is hard to prepare when at lower elevations. Lived in Illinois for a few years when I was younger, made it tough on fall hunts here. Now at 53 I try to pack 72 pounds up 600 steps each week as well as carrying around the hood. Starting to get a few aches and pains. Hunts start in Sept and go through Oct so hopefully will be ready when its game time.

That high altitude medicine works wonders and I'd recommend starting it 24 hours before you hit CO. Doesn't do anything for your physical conditioning of course but does help on the altitude sickness which can be quite dangerous.

Do the best you can, climb as many stairs as you can, with as much weight as you can. And always hunt above your vehicle lol.
much easier to pack meat down hill

Feet are coming along. I managed 5.3 miles last night with 46# and although my feet were uncomfortable they never screamed at me and today they feel fine.

I didn’t go into anything above 9000’, but my recent trip to Co taught me that rucking on flat land does nothing to prep for the terrain in the mountains. From now on I will only train on bleachers or a stair master. My legs were never bad, but I had to work harder than I would like just going up a “normal” incline. I am also trying to really strengthen up my legs with good leg days in the weight room because that seems to be a safer way to be ready for heavier packs than constantly carrying a heavy pack.

Find an office building with multiple floors and accessible stairs. Climb with your pack on (loaded with 20-30lbs max) and an altitude mask. Could also climb the bleachers at the local high school too. Just some ideas. Good luck!

I didn’t know that. I thought it was the same thing as an altitude mask or they may be

They just lead to a shittier workout because it’s more difficult to breathe by restricting air flow. They don’t actually simulate or recreate altitude at all. For that, you would need to purchase a (very expensive) altitude chamber.

According to the manufacturer they are not designed to replicate high altitudes. So there is no debunking just misinformation. The science behind them as far as strengthening and anaerobics and endurance is well documented and scientifically proven

Sounds like a magic pill then... one might even think that it’s even too good to be true.
