How hard is it to get a left over archery tag?
Looking at last years list there are a number of units that had left over tags.
Some of the units had double digit tags.
Is there any tricks to know about?

Trick show up to an office and get in line the day they go on sale, online is risky, be first in line day they go on sale and that’s ur best chance…. Idc what CPW says in person has higher priority, at an office, not your Walmart, otherwise risk online. Depends on unit though but you have 10 leftover tags you need to be in line, 400 tags you better be online refreshing on the hour. Now you look at the list and they had leftovers after draw, after day of online sale you should be good

It can be a pain to get a leftover tag but not end of the world. You have to be online early and ready to go. Need to be smooth and precise with your navigation skills on the website and not mess up. If you manage to get one in your cart, checkout. Don't go back in trying for another tag with one in your cart. Checkout. Once checked out you can try and go for the next tag

Because Youth have Preference in the Secondary Draw.

Look at the Secondary Draw Recap
Yeah, but most of the tags that make it to the leftover made it through the secondary, right (aside from the returns, which are obviously the better tags).

You asked about the Secondary Draw and now talking about the Leftover/Reissue list.
I asked about the secondary draw because the OP stated:
Sounds like I won’t be getting a tag this year. No way I will be driving 12 hours to CO to buy a tag.

You don’t have to drive to CO to apply in the secondary draw, and the majority of tags that would be available as leftovers will also be in the secondary draw (again, aside from reissues). I don’t understand why the OP would resign himself to not having a tag in his pocket when plenty will be available in the secondary draw.

Last night I did do some research on the secondary draw. I guess I didn’t know CO even had one until last night.
I always thought they just did a left over list.
Going by last years numbers for the leftover list I seen a few units I would want to put in for in the secondary draw.
I understand youth get preference but if the left over list is after the secondary draw it’s safe to assume youth didn’t put in for the tag correct?
I guess I need to look at the recap for secondary draw as well.

Study the recap for the secondary draw carefully. With the 100% youth preference, anything "popular" like a re-issue is going to be off the table. However, there may be a unit that you'd want to hunt that you have at least a chance to draw as a non-res. It's been about 5 years since I screwed around overseas at work and missed the primary draw, but at that time I was able to pull an acceptable deer tag from the secondary. I'm sure odds have gotten worse since, but looks like close to 400 non-res applicants drew in the secondary last year. Not sure how many of those were consumed by private land tags or units in the eastern half of the state with little to no public.
