Anyone ever use a dome tent like a cabelas geodesic with just a propane heater? Wouldn't sleep with it on, just use it to warm the tent before bed and in the morning.

I'm leaning towards this option instead of my wall tent and wood stove to stay more mobile. Just not sure about being warm enough and the ability of propane heat to dry wet clothes.

Love to hear anyone's experiences.

We used a propane heater in a dome tent our second year. Camped at 10,000 feet in Colorado. It was a Buddy heater. Woke in the morning leaned over and started the heater before we got out of our sleeping bags. The first two years we got snow and sleet so we have switched to a wall tent and a wood stove. The propane heater warmed the tent enough for us. Drying clothes was not easy. Took too long for our needs. I have heard above 10,000 ft the propane does not work so well. We did not have any problems with ours.

I'm using my insulated otter fishhouse with a battery operated carbon monoxide detector this year as a base camp. I've heard of a bunch of people using dome tents with propane. Nothing beats a wall tent and wood stove, if you don't need to be mobile.

i have used a buddy heater in the 12 tipi and it was ok considering the single digits we had that trip.

This will be a solo trip for me as well and I'd rather not have the hassle of getting the wall tent up by myself.

My 14x16 wall tent is actually easier to set up solo than my Cabela's Alaskan Guide geodesic tent ever was. I'll take the wall tent every single time over anything else, especially during the rifle seasons.

Temporarily off the radar!

Agreed, I can set my wall tent up by myself in 15 minutes it is 12x14 I believe. takes a little longer to do stove and if I use all my ropes. I usually just do the corners
