It's not really a year long (365 days) but rather an annual license as in once a year.

Everyone should be buying the turkey license and coming to Colorado to kill thier birds, there's plenty for everyone and they are just ol' stupid Merriams(one step closer to that slam). Another bonus is you could be scouting for your next big game tag. Win Win

Yup. It is over $110 for a point. Your choices are to:
1. Pay it and get the point.
2. Don’t pay it, and don’t get the point.
3. Don’t hunt.
4. Hunt without a license.

You can weigh the pros and cons, probabilities, and then choose from the above. Or just create a thread and whine about it.

I'm lost then. It sounds like the only issue is that you aren't wanting to pay for a fishing license, not any sort of administrative delay.

Yes, I completely agree that your are lost. You are clearly not understanding what I have tried to articulate in plain English multiple times. @GunsAreFun understands it.

Everyone else gets it. Some people are difficult on purpose.

There’s a similar issue here in NM. If you apply for Barbary sheep you can’t hunt OTC until draw results come out (a month). It’s especially frustrating when they add more OTC areas for a license year and you can’t hunt them until you find out if you drew a tag or not.

It is pretty lame that a NR fishing license isn’t a prequalifying license. Had to buy a small game license last year for a point. Then had to buy a 7 day fishing license on vacation last summer to go fishing with my kids (basically because I knew I’d have one of their rods in my hand most of the time). Should draw the tag I want in another year or so, then I’ll be done with it.

I was hoping there was a rational explanation for your complaint rather than assuming the absurd.

You made it seem like CPW was withholding a license you paid for. I understand now that you are wanting to fish without purchasing a license because you may get one at no cost later. There isn't a genuine issue any more than if someone went to Chili's for lunch and demanded it be free because they may return for dinner.

This is a really good example of why residents like me who used to support NR a great deal no longer do.

That doesn't sound similar at all. He can legally fish today if he wishes, the only preventing that is his own adult choice to not purchase of a fishing license.

You're arrogant AF and you still don't get it. Everybody else on here, but you seems to comprehend it. Get over yourself. I'm done replying to you.

And your f'n references to Chili's...get out a little more.

Yep, that’s what I paid on March 1. Small game license, habitat fee and application fee. My buddies doing the hunt and I were laughing, wondering if we got a tube of KY with the squirrel stamp or if we were just going to take it dry…..

I'm an Outback fan.

I buy a fishing license to fish; I don't know why doing that makes me arrogant or under myself. I also don't know why a NR would think they are exempt from doing the same.

This is my first year applying as well. I put in for a draw with zero points. If i draw a spot great, if not I plan to do an OTC hunt at some point. Why wait until your points are maxed? Get out there and give it a go, who knows you may find a trophy elk with an OTC tag. You wouldn't be the first and won't be the last. Not to mention you will get a better idea of lay of the lands

In 2018 the CPW changed the way license fees were collected. Had they kept it how it was this is how it would play out.

Habitat stamp $11.50
Application fee: $10.00
Elk license: $760.99
Total out of pocket: $782.49
Wait months for the draw results to be posted.
Then refunds issued.
But let's not forget about this gem.

9. $40 PREFERENCE POINT FEE. Hunters will
be automatically assessed $40 per species
($30 for resident deer and pronghorn) for a
preference point unless they have purchased
one of the following: an annual fishing,
small-game, resident combination small-
game and fishing, furbearer or a big-game
license in the previous year, or a current
limited license in the draw for the same spe-
cies for which they seek a point.

The point fee is waived for youth, lifetime
license holders, free senior annual fishing
license holders and residents who are in the
military on active duty outside Colorado.

So if you did not meet the exemption you got charged $40 for the preference point.

Refund: $720.99
Final out of pocket cost for 1 preference point: $61.50 and you do not have an annual small game license.

This all hinges on whether you have the initial $782.49 to even apply for the draw to begin with. If you do not have the funds then you are S.O.L. no point for you.

Now since the change a NR can acquire a point for $11.50+$10.00+$93.78= $115.28 out of pocket

Which method would you rather have?

This is also only factoring for an elk point. Heaven forbid you want a deer point too. $10.00 app fee and $456.14 license fee. Don't forget about that $40 pp fee.....

I would rather spend $125.28 versus having almost $1300 out of pocket pending a refund.

It was like this in another thread with him about costs.

Just remember to send comments to the Colorado wildlife board about wolves or whatever the flavor of the week is. Next year Colorado residents will be asking for help on here to fight a hound ban.
