CO Cow Moose - 300 Win Mag Round Recommendation

180s would be just fine depending on the bullet.

I’ve watched a good chunk of moose die and a good rule of thumb.. if they are still ok their feet, put another one in them. They aren’t overly tough, but can definitely suck up rounds

Shooting factory. Mostly FP Trophy Bonded for 180. Haven’t shot partitions but getting a lot of feedback about those so going to see how those shoot.

I doubt I'd go searching for a new load if the trophy bonded are available and on hand in sufficient number for her to become proficient with.
The 150 TTSX is worth considering if you like lead free. I was really impressed by the Winchester deer season copper might be slightly better and locally is cheaper. The massive hollow point and polymer tip to initiate expansion are positives.

All that said does she have a rifle she would prefer to use or has she expressed a preference for something lighter either in weight or recoil? As long as the cartridge is capable of overcoming the regulatory requirements there isn't much reason not to encourage her to use a rifle she is more confident with.

A few years ago my buddy shot a very large cow moose broadside with a 300 WM at 400-425 yards. Pulled a bullet or two out of the offside hide. Using 200 ELDX precision hunter.
Last year I shot a young bull at about 100 yards with the same setup…. One shot , he stood there and then twirled and down he went.
I don’t remember either of them having much rib meat lost.

In the last 4 years, I’ve killed 4 bulls with 88 ELD m’s. 3 with a 223AI, and the last with a 22 Creed.
The 4 bulls in the 4 years before that were with a 280 AI and 150 TTSX.
The 4 bulls in the 4 years before that, were with a 300 Ultra with 168 (x2)/180/200 TSX’s.

Use whatever your wife shoots best. Moose die pretty easy really.
