CO Archery Elk

I know, it's crazy! And from 1 day to the next too it can change. I hunted first 3 weeks of season last year almost everyday in a couple of different areas and heard maybe 7 bugles the whole time. My buddy went a couple of times in the last week and bulls screaming everywhere, smh.
I mean I have hunting the same general area going on 6 years now,
Year 1: 0-5 bugles until after Sept 15 then lots
Year2: 500 bugles from Sept 1-23, 2 bugles the last weekend
Year 3: quiet the first week, crazy bugles starting around the 7th, quiet for another 8 days lots of bugles after that,

I think you can catch my drift, every time when I think I’m going to time something like the rut, the stock market, the housing market, my wife’s moods I end up off and feeling silly, just go when works for you and figure them out when you get there.

Last year i had one of the most insane bugle fests on Sept 3/4 and little to nothing on the 25-28th so who knows?

Thanks for reply, that's pretty much what I've experienced the last couple of years around here. First couple days of season a couple bulls may talk a little but not real interested, after that through 3rd week just very sporadic. It may just be what it is around here, hoping one day to get into them being loud and crazy, but I'll shoot him if he comes in silent too, lol

Last year had a little 5 point come in silent on my first cow sequence in the area I was hunting, ground was wet and he was SILENT, went to move forward and he's looking at me at 20 yards, I learned quickly keep an arrow knocked until you KNOW nothing came in.
I would try to get in before the muzzle loaders. The difference in pressure the week before muzzle loader vs rest of season was night and day. I missed the first week, if I could go back, definitely wouldn't have.
