Going on my first antelope hunt in Wyoming October 15. Not sure what to bring for clothing? Seems like it could be 70 degrees or 20 degrees. I'm from Michigan and usually don't do a lot of walkig, and plan on a lot of it out there. Thanks.

Layers and check back closer to hunt for weather update.
You're right it could be warm or snowy with wind. Usually by Oct 15 we have some cold weather but it can change back to warm the next day.
Don Day, Dayweather is based out of Cheyenne and he is a bow hunter. He has good weather info online and for local radio stations etc.

What part of the state, not area, can make a big difference in weather ?

Typically I will go on several 1-3 hour stalks followed by a drive to spot. My reason for stating this is you can always bring gear and adjust as needed throughout the day.

My last antelope hunt I had:

Thermal lowers
Camo pants
Thermal t-shirt
Camo shirt
Camo hoodie

Most of that gear was clearance rack Cabela's and I never had an issue.

You are right, the weather can be anything. Check Wunderground for historical averages and records. I am heading to the Casper area at the end of September, and will be bringing a wide variety of clothing to be on the safe side.

Take everything if you’re going to have a truck. I did the exact same thing and around the same time as you are, last year. I think it was anywhere from 70 to 20 during the day and one day it snowed most of the day. But honestly for me it wasn’t the temperature that was bad. What I wasn’t prepared for was the wind, it never stops and it blows pretty hard.

Enjoy the drive from Michigan I drove from East Lansing to Casper last year. If you’ve never been I suggest driving through the badlands in South Dakota on the way. Well worth a few hour detour. But skip the stupid drug store.

My boys and I will be in Casper also around the end of September beginning of October.

^^^Truth!! Most of the time you can hunt in jeans, T-shirt and wind proof jacket but you never know, so bring something warm, waterproof, gloves, etc.. Extra clothes in your pack take up a lot of room, but don't weigh much so strongly recommend bringing extra on a stalk.

Aside from that, GPS is key because you can walk over a slight rise, then another, then "where the heck is the truck"??

Good on you for going! You'll have a blast, post pics upon return!

Every part of this response is 100% truth.

We’ve had trips for pronghorn that never went below 70 during daylight hours til the last day that was a snowstorm.

Bring layers and skip that effing drug store for a successful time.

My opener last year saw snow. The season prior, it was 80 one day and t-shirt hunting. The next day it was 25 with 60 mph wind. I was flyfishing this past July and a storm blew in. It went from 72 to 44 in 15 minutes!

As above - bring plenty of layers. More importantly, know which combination of layers you may need for the temp/wind conditions of the day so you don't need to wear/carry more than needed.

If you are hunting in a drier part of the west you should consider getting pre-hydrated a good week before your trip and staying hydrated while out there - the winds and dry conditions can really take a toll on you especially if combined with elevation.

Good luck

But, but they have free ice water and a BIG jackalope!!!!

And horrible coffee. Perhaps the worst coffee. This is coming from someone who regularly says “There’s no such thing as a bad cup of coffee.”

Badlands are cool though. Highly recommend.

Just remember - if you are seeing quite a few antelope don't shoot the first buck you see. Look at a few and decide which one you like the best.

Have fun and enjoy the hunt!

It's antelope hunting, chances of getting more then a mile from your vehicle are slim, it's relatively flat and easy hiking. Everyday street cloths to fancy hunting clothes work just fine for chasing antelope, bring something insulated to block the wind if it blows harder then usual.

Well, in the winter, the common hunting clothes that you can find in any hunting store are great. However, if the weather is very different, and you do not know for sure whether it will be cold or warm, I would recommend you to use techwear clothes - https://atlas1.co/. The first thing you need to do is to buy the whole set of it - t-shirt, pants, shoes, hoodie, jacket and backpack. Why all techwear? Because techwear is water repellent and this will help you a lot. Now, when you have all it, if the weather is warm enough, you wear shirt, pants and shoes, and the other stuff you can put in a backpack just in case. And when the weather is rainy or snowy, you just get hoodie and jacket (if needed) from backpack, and now you feel warm and safe enought to keep hunting. To add more, you can buy mask, gloves, thick socks and other accessories that will keep you way more heated.
