Clothing for -40 degree hunting

Guess I only posted my hunt on HuntTalk but had a great time. Can’t seems I find a post here so I guess I forgot.

please tell us about your gear preparation.
I borrowed a pair of bunny boots and they worked great. I think it only got down to -30. One day we had great weather and my buddy shot his. The next day it was an ice fog and cold but I got mine. I basically had wool thermals, a mid season warm jump suit on followed by a sleeping Indian wool outer pants. The top half I had a few layers of Kuiu shirts, puffy jacket, and then sleeping Indian wool coat. For mitts I had slim wool gloves followed by Kuiu glomitts, and then a large pair of air force outer gloves. I also had a low temp balaclava with a trappers hat on my head. Bring goggles for the snow machine rides.

In March the weather will be warmer. Who is your transporter? We went with Ed and can’t recommend him highly enough as he was amazing.

And bring a well stocked first aid kit. We had a serious cut in the field that could have been a lot worse than what it turned out to be and I was the only one who had a medical kit with me.

This was a -40 trip. Marmot parka that is 800 down. Under it is a 650 down sweater and a waffle jacket and a wool sweater. Neck gaiter is a cabelas fleece and my hat is a wool hat (I often wear a beaver hat and beaver mittens but this trip I opted for the wool hat and the black Ovis trigger finger mittens).

My lowers was a pair of fleece lined Costco pants and Columbia Omni heat snowbibs. Socks were wool and my boots were cabelas instinct 1200g thinsulate rubber boots (would have worn my bunny boots or sorels if longer trip).

Pretty toasty. I was sweating before long which is bad IMO.

This is a -25 day. I opted not to wear the snow bibs simply because I was only outside for 30 minutes. The fleece lined pants are pretty darn toasty for me. If I was traveling outside the village the bibs would have been worn.

Beaver is hard to beat.
