any solvents or cleaner will take this residue off easily? or is this something that i'll need to scrub away with. it was mounted on an AR so i believe it's got that from the ejection port. .PXL_20220816_033233460.jpg

start with a soft cloth and soapy water. Escalate from there, both with liquid cleansers and what you rub it with. In the end, you don't want to overdue it and have a dull spot on the finish of your scope.

Thanks. Scope was purchased used in" like new" condition so debating if I want to start rubbing away and try to clean it up or just return it. seller conventientaly left pics of the residue out of the eBay listing. I know it's probably cosmetic,. But it shouldn't be too hard to be up front with the condition of an item your selling so there's no surprises for the buyer.

Hoppes or another mild bore solvent and a cotton rag. Might need to soak for a little while. The liquid stuff used for glass cooktops also works well for carbon removal.

It shouldn't put up too much of a fight. If it does, carb cleaner. You aren't going to hurt the anodizing unless you get aggressive with steel wool or abrasives.
