Anyone got good ideas on chuck boxes or just good organization for camp cooking stuff . Somewhere to keep stove , dishes , utensils all ready to go and load in one easy organized tote or box . Post pics if you got em!

Our scout troop has a wooden one that was made years ago. Its like 200lbs and sets up on 2x4 legs as support. I wouldnt go that route as its real pain to move with adults and kids. I store all my personal stuff in the big heavy bins, most of my pots are used at home and not just camp gear.

I like a couple of Rubbermaid totes since they keep out field mice, shed water if an afternoon thunderstorm comes through, stack well, and are pretty cheap. A lot of small things are kept organized in freezer weight zip locks. The 2-1/2 gal size are expensive for what you get, but they seem to fit a lot of things too big for 1 gallon bags, and work well to group small bags together.

In the late 70s, I made two set s of pack boxes (wooden panniers). Two of them are open and I use them for canned goods, paper towels, etc. One contains a stove, dutch oven, and a large frying pan. The last one opens the front like a chuck wagon, but also opens the top. I designed the inside compartments to fit dishes, silverware, spices, knives, cups, glasses, etc. The top compartments are spare parts, matches, replacement parts for lanterns and misc. items. Everything is set up for a hunting camp for four but with minor adjustments I have set it up for a field work group of 8.

The set up has worked well for over 50 years, two jobs and 5 remote hunting camps.

The were designed for horse camps but worked well for pickup camps for years. I spent 25 years in the field where I moved every other night to a new camp all over western Montana for 3-4 months each year.

I used 3/4 " plywood for the tops ends and bottoms and 1/4" on fronts and backs except for the chuckwagon that had a 3/4" front to prepare food on.

I even hit yard sales so the silverware was sterling. Use your imagination. Each loaded pannier weighs roughly 40 lbs.

I use totes like Taper pin. But moving stuff around to get beneath everything is a pain. I keep things vertically oriented when possible and have several small boxes inside it that can be moved easier.. I keep cast iron on top as they will be first out to go on the 2 burner that is set up on a camp table under an EZ up

I use a packout system. Don’t know if I’d buy it just for this purpose but had some not being used.

I should charge you money for this information. I tried everything to keep one of those back totes with a yellow lid organized, but it always turned into a dump. After a having to turn it inside out to find something in the dark I decided that was the last straw. After some internet research, I bought this rollout tool chest and it is freaking amazing. It will hold all we need for camping and everything stays organized and easy to get to. It is nice being able to throw it in without thinking and knowing you got everything you need.

+1 on the packouts. Have tried everything, struggled with the Costco black and yellow buns for years. Have adopted the packout system for truck bed tool organization too

I been doing this hunting/ cooking / camping thing a long time. 40 years. I still travel quite often on three to four three week hubting trips a year with several week long trips as well.

I have tried a lot of different storage set ups for my cooking gear. The best set up for my purposes I have found is a combination of
14 and 20 gallon Rubbermaid Brute totes. I been using this system for 8 years or so. I have yet to tear up a brute tote. The lids fit good and they hold up to extreme cold and hot temps. I started out with just 20 gallon but found the 14 gallon ones where better for smaller things and I did less digging for stuff. I organize them with containers inside similar to how you might organize your back pack. I keep spices, rubs and seasonings in one. Dry goods like flour and cans and breads in another. Pots in another.
Paper products and eating utentsels have their own. Cleaning and washing products have one and it doubles as a dish washing basin.
They all stack well and can be strapped together if you’re stacking in a trailer.

I use the same totes in my small hunting cabin for storage of everything under the bed and the table.
That stuff sits there for 8 months out of the year and the stuff in it looks just the same when I get to the cabin to open it up.

They arent cheap but since purchasing them I have spent zero dollars replacing them. If I need another one for more crap I just buy one. Again smaller is better. I only use the big ones for stuff that will not fit in the smaller ones.

If you dont mind digging and want everything piles in one or two trunks the 60 gallon Dewalt rolling tool boxes are a good option. I use one of those for all my hunting clothes. I use those zippered travel organizers inside the Dewalt trunk.

I've used this one hunting and fishing with a truck camp for close to 20 years. It also has 2x4 legs.

I really like them for cooking out of. Beats hunching over for stuff in totes.

I keep thinking about building a version 2.0, but this one is still just fine.

These with the yellow bins. Great in the garage, can get individual bins out without unstacking.

One of mine is labeled “camping cooking etc” and has everything needed for camp cooking/cleaning/etc including a couple trash bags and paper plates/utensils.

You can get crazy with organization but basically two of those bins in some combination is enough for “camp”, and I’ll throw the chairs/bags/tent etc in on top. Makes packing and keeping the garage organized very easy.

Some really good ideas , I like the pack out/ toolbox deal ! Solves the organization problems with the plain bins . A diy wood one would be sweet but it would look like crap if I tried to build it haha!
