Christensen Arms Ridgeline 300wm question

So I’ve decided my next rifle will be a Ridgeline. I was originally considering a 280ai, but I’m also throwing around the idea of a 300 as well.

Before we get into it - I don’t NEED either one. It’s not like there’s a hole in my safe that one or the other would fill. The 280 was because I’ve always wanted one - I already have a 7mag so there’s an overlap there for sure, which lead me to the 300 consideration.

I don’t have anything as big or powerful as a 300, and to be frank I’ve never shot one. The thing that keeps me from just giving it a shot is the recoil. How is it with the brake? I just don’t wanna buy a rifle that’s gonna collect dust if it’s too much. I would happily have an overlap in lieu of that scenario. I’d likely run 200-212s. Maybe a little heavier depending.

Before the brake nay-sayers roll in - all my rifles have them. I only shoot and hunt with hearing protection, so for me the noise isn’t a concern.

Thank you.

I think recoil is very manageable, mild even. A slayer brake will make it even nicer to shoot.

I’m pretty sensitive to it and I bought the Ridgeline in a 300. It’s surprisingly tame with the radial brake, I wouldn’t really worry about recoil on it at all. I can shoot a box through it no problem.

I've had two Winmags in the last few years.

First one was a heavy rifle in a Manners T5A. It weighed about 21lbs and I shot 215s at 3000fps

Second and current is in a Manners EH5A. It weighs about 11lbs(with can) and I shot 180s at 3000 fps.

Both recoiled about the same given the weights of the gun and bullets I was shooting. The key to it being comfortable is really in the stock. I could take my lighter rifle now, put it in a crappy stock and while the weight may be the same it wouldn't be any fun to shoot.

I shoot .300 Win Mags in several different breeds and even have a couple of .300 WSMs with one in a Kimber Montana and the recoil of the .300s doesn't bother me. However, my Christensen Arms .300 RUM, now that has a break and it is a dream to shoot.

The Ridgeline in 300 wm with the brake on has felt recoil similar to a 308.
