I want a 18” lightweight (ish) 6.5 CM in 5/8x24 threading for a kiddo rifle. I’m not finding many factory options.

What platforms are there for buying and chopping down? I don’t want 1/2x28 and don’t want to run an adapter.

I don’t think tikka t3x allows 5/8 from what I’ve read at 18”.

It’s a kid rifle so I want it to budget friendly.

Why wouldn't you want an adapter? It's impossible to even know it's there once installed.

Howa or Browning X Bolt are the only factory options other than Tikka that I would consider.

What's your budget? The Christensen Ridgeline Scout is 16.25" threaded 5/8, mine shoots right around 1" 10 round groups with 147 ELDM factory fodder...

I think this is the factory option people are going with:

20” barrel
5/8 threaded
Youth LOP stock

This is good stuff. I’d be tempted to throw it into a rockstock and keep for me haha

Bought one last summer for my kids. Would buy again 10/10. Also, you can chop it and still have enough barrel to thread it 5/8 again if you want to.

If you want 18" out of the box for cheap, you could try a CVA Cascade. I know nothing about them, other than knowing they have an 18" 6.5cm option. You could also try a 20" 6.5cm CVA Scout. I bought one for my kids in .350 Legend and it shoots way better than I expected from a single shot.

You can have it threaded 5/8-24 and have a shoulder added, just need to find a smith to do it. I know Kampfeld out of Idaho will do this. While I haven't used him before, many members on here have and seem to be pleased.

Hey OP, you might want to hold off on buying your 6.5cm.
20” threaded 6mm creeds from tikka were announced.

As great as the 6.5cm is, for a kid the 6 may be the better buy.

Shoot this is amazing news haha. That’s exactly what I’ve been wanting but the cost of building a custom one has been prohibitive. Thanks for sharing!

For a kid, I'd rather have a 22cm or 6cm. Saying that sticking to what you asked for a Sig Cross.

I've rebarreled a few and they shoot, have a decent 2 stage trigger that I've learned kids actually seem to prefer and have an adjustable LOP making it even fit them better.

The negative, it's got the chassis feel and some folks just don't like a chassis...but a kid won't know the difference unless they've shot quite a bit.

Adapters are excellent for adding more clipping to your baffles (aka baffle strike). Its just another piece to add to potential tolerance stacking issues.

I’m for sure getting the sig cross but that’s going to be my main rifle lol. My kiddos are 12/11 and I want something they can run too. Be nice to run all 6.5 CM since I have a bunch of reloading stuff but I guess the brass could be used for the 6 CM too

True...then get 2 Cross's :) If you go that route, I'd recommend is getting 120/130 grain bullets for the kids.

Not a great idea to have a 6.5cm and a 6cm and they share brass...besides the potential headspace differences...you dang sure don't want to accidently put a 6.5 in a 6 and without case heads being stamped differently it wouldn't be easy to tell them apart. There is good brass stamped 6 now...no reason to go through that brass prep to neck down 6.5. My 2 cents worth what you paid ;)
