Something caught my eye today thanks to @Jesseb Do any of you guys vet out potential buyers before selling items. It was brought to my attention (after making a comment about price gouging) that the person that had the WTB ad had posted another WTS ad trying sell primers at Gunbroker prices. It just drivers me crazy!! I have driven over 100 miles to meet up with another member to sell him 4lbs of powder for $20 more then what I paid for it. I feel like we should be watching out for other members not trying to retire off them.

You talking about the dude trying to sell $50 primers for $250. It sucks it has come to this and whats worse is someone will buy them so those people just keep doing it, just like the dumb ass dudes that buy everything in the ammo store even they don't need it.

I typically try to vet my buyers, but not because I care what prices they're asking/paying on other items. That's their business, not mine.

I try to do a little research on the person I am buying stuff from. Not for gouging but how long have they been on here and do they contribute. I always worried I'm going to get scammed. I was looking to do some trading on bullets about a month ago. I had someone wanting to trade me on another site that seemed to good to be true. I ask if they are on rokslide as well. They told me a name then came back and said no that's not it its a different name. I moved on real fast.

I've sold a few items lately on this and another board. On the other board I put conditions on the sale and the only takers were folks that only visit the classifieds and sell several things a month on the classifieds for several years running. Them folks are constantly on the different site classifieds snagging up everything they can make a buck on.
I guess its a reasonable business to sell stuff on internet classifieds and auction sites. I don't really have anything against it, but I'd rather sell my stuff to folks who actually want to use it for hunting/shooting, rather than for business uses.
Its always a mind bend. Do you sell your stuff knowing its going to enter the market at a steep markup, or do you just keep it?

As a new member, what recommendations do you all have for us "junior members"? I use the site mostly for research and opinions on gear that I'm looking at purchasing. I enjoy the research and heading down those rabbit holes. I'm currently in the backpack hole. This site was a great resource for some recent acquisitions, one on here recently, and I would hate to be frozen out on a purchase b/c I'm new. Suggestions welcome.

Be a contributor. After your 10 posts to get into the classifieds, 5 out of your next 6 posts were in the classifieds. I believe that’s what they’re referring to.

I can't speak for others, in addition to what @Ucsdryder said, I'd add:

- go introduce yourself in the FNG section
- give away something in the pay it forward thread

That's the kind of stuff I would look at if I were looking to make an exception to whatever criteria I listed in my WTS add. I get that people are new here all the time and that isn't a perfect reason to exclude, but if you pay attention you'll see a lot of "hey first hunt out west tell me where to go to shoot a big buck/bull threads." Dudes show up make one or two posts and poof gone forever. Rokslide is Rokslide because people give more than they take.

I personally vet any buyers and sellers I work with.
To the comment about trying to find a person who isn't going to flip something... I really don't care as long as they don't scam me.
I have bought things off of the classifieds that I thought would work for me only to find out they didn't. I've sold some of them for more than I paid for them. What's wrong with that?

I'm having a hard time understanding the whining going on (especially around ammo and reloading). I'm free market all the way. I'm also a person who believes you learn and grow from your mistakes while adapting to new challenges.

If you're out of primers, powder, ect. I guess you shouldn't have been sleeping at the wheel. This shortage didn't sneak up on us.

I'm down to one box for my CM. I'm not nervous at all. I will adjust my shooting habits and continue on with life.

This will work its self out eventually. Even if it's in Q2 of 2022.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to kick anybody while they're down, but I just don't see what there is to get upset about. If somebody wants to try to make some money, I say let em. If someone is charging an "unethical" amount for a product, I don't care. I scroll on past and wish them the best as they search for the next "there's one born every minute."

Hell, I might be that sucker one day and on that day I'll pay what I owe and carry on down my path.

Once I've sold something for an agreed upon price that was acceptable for both me and the buyer........I could care less what they sell them for if they choose to sell them. That has nothing to do with the agreed upon price I had with them. Once I've sold them, I have no right to dictate anything about the items anymore. They're not mine, they're his.........to do with as he pleases.

Another thing to think of. I gave a few things away in the pay it forward thread. First guy to respond I checked on. His history showed He tried to grab up every single free thing that was being offered. Everything. I passed on him for someone I thought was a better fit.

Good thing to check on.

haha I think that was my exact first post, where should I go to kill a bull... glad I stuck it out, my wallet and my wife aren’t but I’m glad I did, the amount I’ve learned couldn’t be gathered anywhere else. As far as classified I always look at senior member status and I’d say 1/2 of them all the activity is only in the classifieds and I still have my guard up with them but any one I see in threads on a regular basis I have zero issues doing transactions with.

Huh? I’m a FNG to this site, but an experienced hunter and online seller/buyer (for personal use, not profit).

who cares who/why buys? Free market man, an items value is perceived.

The 10 post minimum was an interesting but easily passable requirement. Want to make it an ol boys club? make it 100 post minimum, flame the new guys, and watch it die like duckhuntingchat

This site is like any other.
90% Google-able info
5% entertainment (gen/off topic)
4% classifieds
1% creepy backcountry stories (keep it going!)

nevertheless, i check the forum everyday :)
