My goodness, that is an amazing creature.

What's the story? Can't say I really know much about Tule Elk, is this thing on a Ranch? Can it be hunted?

Just curious.

We saw him from the road in the Mendocino national forest. We snuck up to him for the pictures. He didn’t mind posing for us. I’m not sure if he was on private property or in the forest. The ranch’s in the area did have wilderness unlimited signs on them.

A bull elk tag in CA ranks with any premier elk hunts in the country. All three species are here and bulls in the high 300s are killed every year. I've called in two over 300, one I estimate was 340 or so. Really old bull.

Then one smaller 5 point.

It takes max points to get drawn, which is probably 20 now, and a lot of the guys are almost done with their first round.

Some zones are mostly private with heavy land owner cooperation. Some are primarily back country wilderness hunts. The the that I have taken part in were fairly close to the road.

It's a once in a lifetime hunt for sure.

The tule elk is native to CA.
