Cheap Stuff that Works

Whats the cheap option for a wood burning stove in a tent? I want to be able to get my kids out in the winter but I dont know if I need a $500 titanium one... Anyone have any luck with the ones on amazon or Temu?

or is the best bet a Mr. Buddy with a few tanks? haha
Quite a bit under $500 and it has held up for four hunting seasons in Alaska. My next stove will have a bigger firebox, but this one gets the job done.

Plastic soda or pop bottles instead of much heavier nalgene bottles.
LIghtweight and a variety of sizes up to 2 liters.
Also great for use with Sawyer squeeze filters.
If its cold, I carry them upside down so ice forms at the bottom.
(Nalgene do have advantage of holding very hot water)
Add powdered mix containers to that list. An empty Tang/Kool Aid/Country Time drink mix container weighs 2 ounces/56 g and has a tight-fitting, reliable lid that can be used for a measuring cup:IMG_0528.jpeg

Salvaged nylon straps and buckles. Anytime I toss a duffel bag, backpack, or soft good case of some kind, I cut off as much of the webbing and fastex or delrin hardware and save it. There are currently two things attached to my hunting gear with them. Comes in handy all the time.
Funny, I do the same. On a MT trip a few years ago, I somehow neglected to bring a belt for my pants. I had a small stash of these buckle straps with me and I repurposed one into a belt. It worked great and is now an integral piece of my hunting gear.

Those NRS straps are fabulous!
I use them instead of those stupid 1-inch ratchet straps which I find to be cumbersome and clunky.
3-inch ratchet straps for pallets and 40,000# loads on a semi.
NRS straps for bikes, canoes, stuff on the roof of the truck, Christmas trees and household junk on the trailer.

I did bust one of the straps I inherited from my parents.
It broke when I was pulling it tight.
It was 40 years old when it broke.

They also offer the why-so-hard-to-find 1-1/2" option: Far stronger than 1", yet far easier to wrangle than 2" trucker straps.
