Cheap Stuff that Works

Hahaha no doubt.

Bottom line though, a great tool to have around, for an extra 6.6 oz in the pack. Have an extra in my truck, too, that has seen a ton of use over the past five years. Surprised to see them still in the $20-30 range

What a thread.

Saw it mentioned once since 2020, but will put another vote in now for the Bahco Laplander folding saw. Great for cutting wood to fit the stove, works fine on bone in a pinch, and is reasonably light weight.

Could also be a hunt-saver… if, say, your Seek Outside aluminum 8-man tipi pole folds in half on night one after a light dusting of snow… and you need to repurpose a small tree trunk.

$27 on Amazon right now.

And for an extra $12, can get a Mora knife with a sheath to go with it.

You cost me $39…

This may have been mentioned, but the $10 Walmart D2 pocket knife is the best crap knife in its class. D2 is ok steel that holds an edge well, which is crucial for extra / sacrificial knives. Good for all those uses where using a real knife hurts.

There are better knives for $15-20 but nothing in this price range.

i will tell you about that one if the canadian customs let the knife in as i found one for a decent price.

Whats the cheap option for a wood burning stove in a tent? I want to be able to get my kids out in the winter but I dont know if I need a $500 titanium one... Anyone have any luck with the ones on amazon or Temu?

or is the best bet a Mr. Buddy with a few tanks? haha

How will you carry it? If you’re not using a backpack it’s hard to beat a buddy heater for a short trip. We use them all the time ice fishing. Much easier than keeping a fire going.

Someone shared this elsewhere, seems like a fan favorite that is now on sale as the brand name is changing

I’ve got one. Size up. It’s great jacket for three season.

It is objectively not in any metric that matters to knife users. I would be interested in reading whatever you're talking about if you could provide a link.

Also interested in where this idea came from because I can't find anything remotely related in anything MIT has released in the last several years.

Plus the fact that it's just obviously false.

I never said that it is true that D2 Steel is best I said I read it When I am back at tire store I will see if I can find article and magazine I saw it in

As a dad of 4 with a single income household I have done well hunting Wyoming with almost exclusively budget gear. I know of this thread and have posted in here before, but thought it would be helpful to post a link of budget stuff that has lasted me a long time and I wouldn't hesitate to recomend or buy again.

This isn't the exact brand tripod, but it is the same tripod? Many companies are selling these exact tripod under many different names. Ive had mine for 8 years and it is great for glassing with binos and shooting off of in the field. For sub $100 it is an unbelievable deal and I promise you will spend upwards of $250 to get the exact same tripod with a name brand printed on it.

Tripod stud. Only had it for 2 seasons now, but it doesn't do anything the more expensive stuff does.

I cant believe Hyke and Byke sleeping bags arent more popular on here. I got my. Eolus 0 degree on Amazon for $150 and have slept in the backcountry down to single digits and been almost too warm.

Walmart store brand are better than Ziploc. I have some of these bags in my pack going on 2 seasons. I use them to organize everything inside my pack and bring extras just in case since they dont weigh anything. I like them better than stuff sacks because obviously you can see whats inside.

Ive used this stove with a titanium or stainless cup for 8 years straight.

Things to not skimp on and buy budget are boots and packs. Truly buy once cry once on those.

Hyke and Byke stuff seems to be sold out on Amazon and their site.

Looks really good for the money. For sure.

It punches WAY above its price. Id compare warmth to a WM and it's 1/6 of the price and I think just under a lb heavier.
