Cheap Stuff that Works

Just got back from a week long hunt. Was able to take in about a liter extra of water a day from puddles, springs, and a beaver pond. Hot broth and tea everyday!

I had the same idea of attaching a rubber band to the lid pot to keep it from rattling around in my pack before I left of my last outing. Ended up not doing it, and now it’s somewhere in the mountains haha

I mean if the flavor you most associate with ramen or pho is sriracha then sure. To be honest I didnt like drinking it cold. And if its hot it needs noodles in it.
I don’t understand some of the words you used, but if this tastes anything like chicken ramen broth then I’ll be a big fan.

Not everything should cost an arm and a leg. Post any inexpensive stuff you’d recommend that just flat works.

I’ll start with a Mora 711. ~4.5 oz with sheath, easy to sharpen (and resharpen in field), and the textured rubberized grip is fantastic. Easy to grip and your hand doesn’t tire after several hours of boning.

$15

Heavy duty window shrink wrap - makes a great meat tarp or even a groundsheet. With some duct tape you could probably rig an emergency shelter.

6 oz for a 5’ x 10’ sheet, can be cut to size.

$7.94

Just to add a few more things for those who are interested in saving money.

1. The merino socks that Costco sells you can get them once they go on clearance for about $5 or $6 dollars really great quality for the money.

2. Orvis pants at Costco are great for hunting only weight 12 oz and with a base layer you can use in colder weather. On clearance for about $6 as well. Last year I got 4 pairs.

3. The Eddie Bauer sun hoodie at Costco got them on clearance for $7 this year. They can be used as base layer or during hot weather.

4. USA Polartec Silkweight shirt and bottoms got them on offer up for $2 each. I found the shirt wicks moisture incredibly and no need to spend over 70 dollars on a brand base layer. The shirt weights only 5oz and dries super quick.

5. The USMC fleece 1/2 zip polartec great for layering weights only 10oz in size small. You can find them at yard sales or military surplus got mine for $3 a couple years ago.

6. SKSOT Fixed Blade Skinning Knife from Amazon $14 great skinning knife. Or the Old Timer 152OT Sharpfinger 7.1in S.S. Full Tang Fixed Blade Knife for $10 more. Some friends have them they rave about the Old timer skinning knife.

Awesome thread here, made a very expensive list of cheap stuff haha.

Whats the cheap solution to backcountry pistol carry? Crazy that a chest holster is dang near half the cost of the glock riding in it. Anyone make anything themselves on the cheap?

Wanting to do be able to pack a pistol during bow season but hard to justify the cost. Universal holsters are an option I guess but those always seem to be lacking.

Salvaged nylon straps and buckles. Anytime I toss a duffel bag, backpack, or soft good case of some kind, I cut off as much of the webbing and fastex or delrin hardware and save it. There are currently two things attached to my hunting gear with them. Comes in handy all the time.

I have a few Hosking chest holsters. Not cheap but a cheaper option than the others out there. I have been happy with all the ones I have. Follow them on Facebook and sometimes they will have 15% off.
