Old school wool, gloves and pants especially. Not sure why we ever let companies convince us anything is better. Crazy creek chair (you’ll never look back compared to the chunk of z rest). Iron sites.

Here’s a DIY I put together for some cheapo zipper pants - y’all gave me the idea from this thread and others about using and up-sourcing military surplus.

Is that the Swazi bush shirt? I have the Nahanni jacket... I absolutely love it but it's a little warm for early fall. I'd like to get a lighter weight Swazi shirt for warmer conditions. Bomb proof gear for sure for price.

Enjoying this thread a lot!

Just got back from WY, unpacking my mess... This little minimalist shovel is the bomb! It's tough, rigid, and light as a spoon. Took it on a 7-day bivy hunt and ended up stealing the show. Used it to bury TP & WWs, prep bivy beds, groom backpack stove spots, cut sage roots... 5 stars for crazy light, failproof, and usability! Paid $18.99 on Amazon. See REDCAMP backpacking shovel.

Not windproof, but insanely warm-for-weight fleece. The kiwis are famous for the quality of their outdoor clothing. I've had my Swanndri bush shirt for going on 15 years now & it's as good as new!
Rob did you order off the Swazi site or through Amazon?

Amazon says $88 but someone else mentioned $50ish

Yep mine was $68 can't wait to try it out. Looks like a nice hoodie!

I bought one as well. Looks awesome. $67.97 to my door from NZ. Excited to put it through its paces.

You’ll love it! I love mine so much it has turned into an everyday wearer....I think I’ll buy another one to save and keep nice just for hunting.

Rapala wood handled fillet knives are my go to cheap knife for fish as well as butchering big game. Think they run about a dozen bucks. I must have about half a 4 or 5 of them now.

Yep, use 6 inch wood handle repalla as part of my kill kit for the gutless method and boning out meat in the field. My buddy has a newer one with a rubber handle - much grippier and less hand cramping how long on to the slick wood handle when bloody.

Frogg Toggs bonnie hat - says breathable but I couldn't tell but definitely water proof, durable and provides sun protection.

Stream light micro light. Runs off 1 AAA battery, weighs a few ounces, clips on a hat or headband and is super bright. Goes with me everyday. I think they’re like $25-$30

Adding another knife to the list...

I picked up this fibrox knife primarily for chicken and waterfowl/upland birds. However after using it on this years antelope I would highly recomend as it made very efficient work around all the tendons, silver skin, and bones. I would imagine this would work just as well for whitetail and mulies. They also make a 3-3/4" version that would be great for caping.

Victorinox Fibrox Pro Poultry 4.50" Boning Knife ($12-19)

If you like that one, check this one out as well. Like the big boning knife but shorter. It’s called the rabbit knife. It’s got a perfect curve for skinning and boning. Nice all around, pretty much my main carry knife anymore

My tent, but my hunting buddy’s brilliant idea...we cut and capped a piece of irrigation PVC to fit over the tipi’s pole and use it as a ‘clothesline’ for drying gear out overnight. We drilled holes for pegboard hooks to hang gear from.

Almost no weight and it doesn’t cause ‘wall-sag, from the weight of clothes.
