Who hunts with a cheap bow? I haven’t had much time to bow hunt the last few years because of changing locations and kids taking up a lot of time. Thought about getting back into it so I bought a PSE stinger for $235 on eBay set up and ready to go. I like it! I’ve had a few bows in my life and My last bow is a 16-17 year old Hoyt that cost me about $1000 at the time probably and the new PSE is twice the bow that thing ever was.

I shoot bear now. I could shoot most anything I want. But I find the Kuma is hard to beat. Bought a 70# and a 60#. Run the 60 for most of the year to stay in tune. Had the 70# dipped in the camo I wanted. I have two bows and one in the pattern I want for less than a flagship from other companies.

This one came set up and paper tuned at #65. It’s that skull camo that PSE has that I don’t like but it was $235 so whatever. Quiver is junk but I don’t like having a quiver on my bow anyway. Sight is decent. I never really liked shooting over 40 yards anyway.

I think most bows now are pretty good. It's a pick your poison kind of thing. I don't have much allegiance. I have mathews, elite, Hoyt, bear bows. Find what you like shooting.

I’m shooting an old Golden Eagle Evolution that my buddy let me borrow to learn on. I shoot it really well and don’t get out of my ability trying to shoot long. Been shooting it for 5 years.

Yeah. That’s kinda what I’ve seen lately. It used to be pretty much just Hoyt and Mathews with the $1000 bows. Now a bunch of new brands and everyone maker has their top of the line $1000+ bows. I bought the cheap one just to get back into shooting and maybe hunt with for a couple years. And if I have time and get back into i thought I might upgrade but it’s way nicer than I expected.

This is a cool, and refreshing thread. While I do have pricy new gear it’s awesome to see guys “run what they brung” and enjoy doing it. The sport needs more of this attitude in my opinion.
Cheers, guys!

I killed my first elk last year with a 2014 Bear RTH package (I upgraded the rest and stabilizer over the years).

I went and shot almost every day and when I had a chance at 50 yards I nailed it. Finally bought a new bow this year and love it (CT5). Hopefully get 4-5 years out of it before getting the urge to switch.

Definitely nothing wrong with cheap bows. I think they mostly get a bad rap as they are often the choice of the buy it for the sake of having it crowd/those who don't commit and practice enough.

I got a stinger off eBay for my wife who is just getting into archery. It shoots great and didn’t break the bank!

I was shooting a Bear Authority for a while and a ton of my pig hunting buddies shoot cheapo bows.

So long as it sends the arrow where you want it to go it'll work...

Even cheap bows today are better than top of the line bows 25 years ago.

I shot a used diamond edge for a few years. I Really couldn’t complain about that bow at all. Upgraded to a Mathews triax, which was quieter and less shock. But if I had to go back to that cheap ass diamond I could. It was worth every penny I paid for it.

I’ve shot more expensive setups, but I’m currently shooting a Bear Traxx. I put together my whole setup for well under $500 and it shoots! I regularly practice out to 100 yards. That extra $500-$1000 I could of spent on a flagship just doesn’t make sense to me when that means a few less tags in my pocket.

It’s the first thing I try to tell people when they are asking whether they really need some type of gear to go hunting. Don’t worry about the gear, and spend more time in the field and you’ll kill a lot more animals. I know guys who buy the best bow setup money can buy every single year and yet haven’t killed anything with a bow in 10 years of hunting. Gear can help, but it is one of the least important things in being a successful hunter. You don’t need the latest and greatest stuff, so if you can’t afford it, just buy what you can afford and go hunting.

High country X12, yes I said a high country. Bidders on it on eBay for $175 not expecting to win, with plans to use it as a spare.
Came from factory with great custom strings, Barnsdale Limbs.
Great valley, fast. Tuned easy
I shoot better with this bow than I did with a synergy, arena 34, bear BR33, and a Hoyt spider, and a few
Others. I’ve bought bows since and keep going back to the damn thing. It’s like a stray cat

I built a recurve and traded it for my elite gto. I figure I have about $200 in the bow. Its been a good investment.

I bought a PSE x force super short for under $200 just to get back into bow hunting, haven't done it in 15 years. Having it restrung and adjusted is all I'm doing with it. Tickled pink lol....

I currently hunt with a Diamond Edge SB-1. I shoot deer with it every year since I started hunting 4-5 years ago. Probably look to get something different here soon just because I got bit by the archery bug. Kind of like owning a few different pairs of shoes or owning multiple guns I suppose, can't hurt to have more than one?!

I just talked myself back into the archery game this year. Bought a brand new still had the tags on Bowtech Assassin for $350 bucks on Craigslist. Dude had a bunch of them from a closed down archery shop. Man how technology had changed. This bow shoots night and day better than anything I had in the past. I’m not sure my skills could take advantage of anything better.

When I came back after a looong lay off, I picked up a PSE Stinger 3G. It was an entry level bow but far better in every way than the bow I was shooting 12+ years earlier. Now my primary bow is an Obsession Turmoil RZ, another mid level bow. The PSE is now my back up.

A well tuned bow, well built arrows, and consistent training are far more important than the price of the equipment. There’s nothing wrong with spending more money for higher quality equipment, but it is not absolutely necessary
