Charleston, SC—things to do & see?

John King (corner of John and King - near Hall’s mentioned above) is a great dive bar, especially sitting at the bar.
 
My wife and I went back to visit last May and did a couple things we hadn't before. One that we really liked was visiting the Magnolia Cemetery. You can drive (we did) or walk through much of it, and it has some beautiful, fascinating areas and grave markers from a lot of famous people from a long time ago. You should check it out. We also liked Lewis BBQ and the Ft. Sumter tour.

As most comments above reference, it is a really neat town with so much stuff to do. BTW, we stayed at a condo on Seabrook Island not too far from Charleston and that is a super cool place, private island with no commercialism on it or the beaches. Highly recommend.

Charleston City market and Battery walk ✅

Isle of Palms walk ✅ Found a couple of intact conch shells the grandkids will probably get a kick out of.

Some of our contingents did a carriage tour and thought that was very worthwhile.

We might do some flat water kayaking tomorrow.

Had a great time! Good weather- mid 70's for highs, lows in the 50's- no complaints there.

We hit the beach a couple of times, spent a lot of time in the old downtown area; we didn't find time to kayak or try our hand at some fishing- next time.

We hit a few restaurants that were listed in this thread-all good. We had a little Vietnamese restaurant literally right next door- at lunch there a couple of times. Our wedding rehearsal supper was at a whisky bar (Bar Mash) and they had a bunch of different sliders and appetizers; also got a great meal at the wedding-an old plantation just out of Charleston.

My nephew just graduated medical school at MUSC and got me a week pass to their gym for $15- almost hit it daily- easily the nicest gym I've ever used. Between the gym and getting lots of walking in, felt like I could eat what I wanted :ROFLMAO:

The history in Charleston is old, very old- back to the 1600's- nothing even remotely approaching that in Montana, so that was definitely cool :)

I think almost anyone would enjoy that area, probably less so in July and August though.
 
Eat. Then eat some more. Then find another place to eat. The food there is sensational. You cannot leave there without having shrimp and grits. My nephew and family used to live near there but then the turd moved so we didn't have an excuse to go eat there. Did I mention something about eating there?

Poogan’s Porch was really good, wife and I ate there in Feb.
 
I highly recommend you do a food/cocktail tour one day if you have time. Great way to see the city, Learn a little, and scout out restaurants and bars to return to later.

Rodney Scott's BBQ is pretty famous and good. Worth it just see the smokers going if nothing else.
Head down toward Wadmalaw Island and get some fresh seafood. Shrimp boats, Tuna, swordfish, etc.

Savannah is awesome to walk too if you have time. Most cities in the south were burned by the yankees, so its pretty unique to be in place that is so old in the South.

Ghost tours are pretty fun in both towns too. I'm not sure I believe, but they make you wonder at least. Usually you can find one that incorporates a bar crawl too.
 
This is a timely thread I’ll be heading there at the end of April with the family. Looking forward to it even more now after reading through all of this.
