Characters of RokSlide

I’m in when we start the shepherds of Rokslide subforum 👍

Good storytelling but disappointed there’s no Monty Python references. Missed opportunity.

This was part of the jokes I didn't cover that were part of the rest of the stay in the hospital.

And that maybe I could be in Def Leppard now.

It was a young crowd tho and they didn't get it.

Like when I was asking what channel I could watch some Andy Griffith or Matlock on, and they were like wha?

My description clearly outlines the danger of it, more than the perception in the moment. I was purposely descriptive of it because I'm tired of the wrinkled up face going, so you drove into a gate?

I think I more frequently didn't stick my arm through it, but held onto it with my hand.
I think it might just have to come meet you. I appreciate a good story of how mistakes were made and how not to make them again. I have carried many farm/ranch/construction supplies just as you described over the last 40 years ago and never once considered what might happen if the leading edge hit the ground or another object.

Thanks for sharing your story Billygoat. Good reminder to think shit through. I think most of us who’ve been around farming, ranching, construction, and horses have had experiences where something happens violently and we step back and go “Oh shit… that coulda gone really bad”. Unfortunately sometimes you don’t get to step back…. You look up from the ground and start asking hard questions.

I have a few scars, missing teeth, and torn tendons and ligaments as reminders of my moments of inattention or bad luck. Great stories to go with most of them, including waking up in an OR and seeing a circle of faces in surgical masks looking down at me. My first thought? “Hmmmmm, this can’t be good.”

I feel blessed to have never incurred an injury as serious as yours cuz I have done some stuff that makes driving with a pipe gate over your shoulder seem positively sane and intelligent. I could as easily be dead. A sense of humor is essential for getting through this stuff… well life in general actually. As I’m sure you know, cowboy humor generally goes like “Well nobody got killed, so that was hilarious”

I didn’t even need the picture- I used to carry panels the exact same way, only it was with an old jeep. Had a piece of pipe (handyman jack handle actually) that I wedged in by the bumper/frame that stuck out a little to set them on. I thought it seemed plenty safe at the time, too. Hope they get you patched back together.
