I keep them in my truck. A lesson I learned as a youth. "Chains can get you out of or into a lot of trouble" - my dad on one of my first muzzy deer hunts as we crawled out of a canyon in his 73 powerwagon throwing giant mudballs on the hood after a freak November rainstorm in Idaho.

Saved my bacon last Oct in the Bighorns--pulled out several people that didn't have them.

Actually pulled a F350 hooked up to a horse trailer loaded up out several miles to the main road.

Vbar chains will be in the truck every trip into the mountains from now on.

Chains are a life safer. I would never go into the woods in N Idaho with out them or a chainsaw.

I have some for my plow truck at my house and if I went north to the Brooks Range in mid-late Sept or later I would for sure have some.

That said after helping you put them on your truck last fall I gotta say whatever brand you have for your truck are super handy for going on/off super quick!

The road clearing services here in Oregon are shite, and they are sometimes "required". I've never had to put them on, but have a set in my Jeep anyway. However, a chainsaw is a must.

I keep a set of 4 chains in my truck during my late Elk hunt in Oregon. The roads are usually icy and snowy, but there are also places with lots of thick mud (tire chains, not just for snow).

I also have a 12k winch on the front of the truck if things get really bad.
