I was speaking of the Lathrop and Sons boot, not the crazy colored STP boots. The lime on the Lathrop version is subtle. Not the case on the STP regular version.

Ah my mistake. With pants over the boots and wearing gaiters most of the time, I don't imagine much of the Lime color will show.

Even if it all showed brightly, I can't imagine an instance where elk would turn and run at the sight of my boots. As much as I hate to say it, hunters have become very aware of their fashion. Must have matching camo, shades, colors. Just me, but I'll take a $165 dollar boot in Lime Green over a $375 boot in brown.

If it is too crazy a little nubuck or suede dye will take care of it for $6 and be permanent :)

Try Sierra Trading Post. The had all sizes a few months ago and might still have some 12's if you don't mind strange colors. I snagged a pair awhile back for 160 something with a coupon. Exact same boot, I talked to Lowa a few days ago.

The ones on STP appear to be last year's model (same name, diffferent construction). REI only recently updated the boot on their website from last year's model (listed as 2012 closeout) to this year's model. The current boot is $375 and the old style is available through the outlet for $273. There may not be substantive differences between last year's model and the current model, but I thought I would point out that the ones being purchased at clearance prices are not the same boot L&S is offering.

The layout of the upper is visually very different from last year's model to this years. In terms of the differences in materials/construction, I cannot say. The salient point of clarification is they are not the same boot as what L&S is selling.

Yup in apperance they are way different, uppers, lacing and sole. But that may just be cosmetic. The L&S is an 8in boot and STP says it is a 6in (to me it looks like that is a misprint). The L&S is 3-4oz less in weight then the STP version.

Functionally they may be the same but visually they are not and from the specs they are diff as well.

I posted this before when you asked, but I'll make it clearer this go round.....

The CURRENT Cevedale from Lowa is the Same as the Lathrop model (except color), but what you're getting and what I tested ARE different.

From my notes, the model I tested (the one on STP) is heavier, a lot uglier:), different lacing system (a little anyway) and a few other things.

I didn't want to be a dick and argue when you mentioned Lowa said they were the same, but Lowa told you about the current model, and it is the same price as the Lathrop.

So if someone buys the STP version, DON'T BITCH AT ME THAT THEY FIT DIFFERENT, LACE DIFFERENT AND PERFORM DIFFERENT THAN WHAT MY VIDEO SAYS:)

Happy hunting everyone!

I noticed the same thing. The model you're representing is Tech-Lite Cevedale. 3.5 lbs is light for a heavy duty mountaineering boot!

I didn't mean to ruffle any feathers, that wasn't my intention. I was hoping MattB was holding both models so we could clear up any confusion on the differences. The STP version is certainly an older model. The REI version appears to be the current. The CS guy at Lowa may have misunderstood me, although I thought I was pretty clear on which models I was asking about. He told me they were made on the same last, same weight, the only changes made had been cosmetic. I guess it depends on what version he though i was talking about and what he considers cosmetic changes The weighs listed are the same ( unless I'm looking at something wrong) 3.50 lbs/ 3lbs 8 oz.

The STP model is certainly uglier, I don't think anyone can argue that! Sorry to everyone who got steered wrong on the STP boots by my post.

I looked briefly on their website, but didn't see a Gold Package option on these. Do you know if they will be offering it for them?

How are you gettin them for $160? I only see $280 something

Yesterday's email code was KAJ7684K and still working today for 35% off and free shipping.

Interesting that Lowa is a German boot company but these are made in Italy. Wonder if they have a plant there or are farming these out to someone else? The ones on STP look a little Asolo'ish. The one's on L&S look a good bit different to me. The name on the Lowa site is the same however for both models.

This one appears to be the STP version - http://www.lowaboots.com/catalog/cevedale-gtx/2100259899/1

And this one appears similar other than the loud mountaineering boot colors to the L&S boot - http://www.lowaboots.com/catalog/cevedale-gtx/2100506099/1

L&S Tech-Light - http://www.lathropandsons.com/cevedale-tech-light-hunter-gtx-lowa.html
