Best cell phone spotter adapter out there? The interchangeability of the Nova Grade one looks really nice. Kinda stinks that you'd have to pay for a new adapter for the phone scope every few years if you get a new phone.

I believe the Nova Grade is metal though, so probably a little heavier. Don't think I really want to carry it on the mountain with me and play around with it anyway. Any good reason to do this? I guess you would be able to get some cool pictures. Never used one, but I wouldn't imagine that you use it for actually glassing?

Thanks!

I’ve been through phoneskope and same idea. I change optics and phones more frequent than the average person changes underwear. Gets real expensive real quick.

Tines up universal would be my favourite but the case for the iPhone X doesn’t use the wide angle camera. Debating just ordering a tab and adapting a spare case I have. The quality of their universal ring is best I’ve seen.

I have the nova grade double gripper and it’s more or less my go to. It’s a bit heavy but totally worth it.

I do use it a lot for actual glassing. It’s awesome for glassing with a spotter, you can zoom in and get great detail, take a video or some pics and study them really well in detail without having to chase the animals around with the scope

For a phone adapter is it better to use the wide angle camera if your phone has it or the standard camera? I bought the Tines up universal but haven't mounted a plate to the back of my case yet.

I like it better with the wide angle camera. It gets rid of the vignette (black ring around the photo) without having to use the digital zoom on the camera. Much better looking pictures / videos that way

I have the Phone Skope Universal adapter. I can still use it if I change phones or a friend wants to use it with his. It works pretty well and the price isn't bad.

The tines up one looks pretty nice. So you purchase the metal universal adapter disc and then you need to paste a threaded tab onto any phone case you wish to use? That the best way to go about it?

Thanks!

That’s what I would suggest. Get the package with the tab for your phone.

I ordered the case with tab from them and wish I went with just the tab.... the case is ok but there’s much better out there. Plus as I said it’s aligned for the camera opposite what I want to use.

Their case is just a cheapy model that they stick the tab to for you.

So then your phone has that big tab thing stuck to it all the time?

Thats the only part that really turned me away from theirs - when I take my phone off the scope, I want to put it back in my pocket and go.

I just bought an extra case to swap out to during hunting season. They are so many options on Amazon for any given phone, you can just buy a dedicated case to use during the hunting season and swap out back to your regular case as needed. The Tines up adapters aren't so big that they wouldn't be fine to throw in your pocket and continue using it as normal for a week or so. Granted, I don't have any time behind the adapter, but it has been on my bench ready to assemble for a while.

The tab doesn’t really stick out from it. Nothing near as bad as the phoneskope cases. I have it packed away to take on a hunt next week but I’ll snag a pic when I get a chance

I have only used the Novagrade. But couldn’t imagine anything better built or more universal.

The tines up universal is actually way better than the novagrade. It’s also more universal... with the novagrade I had to purchase the small
ring kit on top of everything else to adapt to my small swaro binos. The tines up ring is a better design, lighter, more compact and great quality.

If novagrade adapted the double gripper at a reduced weight and used the tines up universal it would be the best solution out there

Anyone know what the Nova Grade and Tines up systems weigh?

Basically the same thing I linked in the "athlon ares spotting scope adapter suggestion" thread, but make that thing out of some sort of metal rather than plastic. It would be the perfect solution.

Might just try this. Is it easy to bump the phone out of alignment once you have it setup, or does it hold in place well?

The Glassitup is a pretty nice economical/universal option. I just bought a cheapie phone case of Amazon for $7 and rolled from there.

The phone holds in place very solid - that's the least of my worries with it. The big part at the top that clamps to the scope was more of my concern as its all plastic, including the clamps and the threads, but it seems to hold to the eyepiece very well - I'm just careful not to over tighten it.

If you have amazon prime, this one has free returns.. really no risk in trying it out!
