Sorry if this isn’t the correct place, but figured you folks that reload might have an idea of why this occurred (see picture).

Had two rounds “rupture” in new, factory loaded ammo (PPU). Only shot 4 rounds from the box, didn’t want to push my luck.

Barrel is new, head space was checked. No issue shooting rounds from a different brand of factory ammo.

Never experienced this issue before. Really just looking to get an understanding of what actually is occurring. Bad brass?

Rifle is chambered in 9.3x62. Ammo that give the issue is PPU.

Measure the OD @ .200 from the head on the ruptured case, a fired case and a new case. The picture isn't clear enough to see clearly, but it looks like it swelled quite a bit.

You don't have to be exactly .200....but close. You can stack some paper and set your calipers on it to ensure all the measurements come from the same spot.

Most case head separations are latitudinal failures. That looks more like an issue with the brass than headspace.
Head diameter could cause that failure though. As @Wrench suggested, measuring diameter at the .200 line would give an idea if that dimension is the issue.
