Cartridge for cow elk at close range?

While I've not shot the Hornady version, I have used the similar Remington "Managed Recoil" load in a .308 carbine for my son when he was young. Good stuff- mild recoil leads to good shooting and that leads to dead critters.

At the ranges you're talking, it'll do the trick every time. You have about 1500 ft/lbs at 100 yards and that is what a typical '06 load has at 300 yards...not many folks would hesitate to bust a cow with an '06 at that range.

Don't overthink this one- she's got the tools she needs.

I'm with the other guys. She does not need a new gun. What you could do it work on getting her to shoot a little heavier bullet. Plenty on Bull Elk go down with the .308 every year.

X2 and sounds like is also already extremely confident in the rifle/load.
