Hey RS,

I am heading up the Dalton Highway soon for a moose hunt. Leaving from Fairbanks and need to get to Coldfoot. We rented a UHaul to drive up the Dalton but I hear they don’t have spare tires. Has anyone had a flat on their UHaul on the Dalton? What did you do with the limited cell service up there? Thanks!

We just did the trip, No spare, got a plug kit but did not need it. Drove 1700 miles, most of the time on the other side of the pass between Happy Valley and Deadhorse. This was our second time up in 3 years and no issues with tires. I would just get a plug kit and buy or bring a cheap 12v pump.

I have done two trips this year and got a flat on each trip.

Garmin Inreach or Starlink is probably the best form of communication

Also, not sure if the U-Haul is 4x4 but the road is in awful shape right now with all the rain. Might be required to get up some hills like Beaver Slide

I saw that. I booked it in February when I drew the moose tag. Hard to know what the weather is going to be like 6 months out and there aren’t many other great rental options.
