Depends if the wash has a sign about mud...also depends on how well he sprayed the floor towards the drain. I know out west a lot of them have outside bays that have signs stating for trucks or muddy vehicles. I usually try to get the majority of the crap off before I drive home.

I know the spray washes around my house ask not to use if you have excessive mud/dirt.

With CWD concerns you're using the car wash for euros might be be banned soon enough.
Our car washes have signs asking very dirty trucks use certain bays.

I run my truck up on ramps at the base of my drive way, gives you plenty of access to take my gas powered pressure washer to clean it all nice and the pressure cleaner will break down the big clay to be washed away
or swept up by our street cleaner that never comes when it is schedule and cars are cited even thou it's not the day posted and you have to waste a day fighting it in court. (excuse me different rant)
Yes that clay will screw the clarifier and separation holding tanks, why do you think it cost 7 bucks and a credit card these days. now if I did pay 7 bucks and a credit card to pressure wash my truck and there was no specific signs I would pressure wash all of my truck. Since I don't the 7 bucks and a credit card buys me a 12 pack while I clean it in my drive way.
A- hole maybe

I thought that was what car washes are for? Unless it stated otherwise go for it. I've never saw a wash that said Prius's only!

Just take the time to spray down the bay walls and the floor. It's not a big deal. Take a shovel and get rid of the mudd in the wheel wells before you get on pavement also helps.

So a guy I know just got back from a hunt out west. Truck was caked in Clay dirt. Packed in the underside mostly and in wheel wells. Went to public car wash and spent roughly 45 min cleaning it All out. Chunks the size of softballs dropping out. Said guy has been known to pressure wash euro mounts as well from time to time also.

Is he an A hole? He made some attempts to wash the muck away or at least toward the center so it was still usable for others but didn't want to send it all down the drain either.

This was not me. Definitely not me. Thoughts?

IMO, this question is subjective.

If I am in suburbia where the majority of cars won't have much more than a thin layer of road grime, then yea, you're probably a d*ck for leaving a mound of clay at the car wash for 'soccer mom Sara' to come drudge through when needing to clean her Honda Odyssey.

On the flip, I live in a farming community where it's nothing to see folks cleaning off tractors, picking trucks and their farm pickups at the local carwash.

Whereas many people use their local carwash to completely detail their vehicles to new condition, there are others that are used knock off the mud and salt. It all just depends on the area.

car wash is for washing vehicles. i say he did what he was supposed to while there. never seen one with a time limit because most of them self service bays sell by the minute.
