Thanks for the heads up... I'm sure it will be hard work to find a decent bull and buck... I'm still going to try

Always be positive. We were in the same boat with it being dry, then killed a giant bull Monday. Hunt your tail off! Best of luck!

Have hunted the area out by Polaris outside of Dillon for many years, I stopped a few yrs ago due to too many people. Some great whitetails in the flats around Dillon but mostly private land there. If you see any Mulie out past his ears shoot him. They don't produce big Mulies in that area generally, the bigger bucks usually don't show up until later Nov when the rut kicks in. For Elk you will find Elk but you will see a lot of orange in that area also. My advice would be to get up high early and be mobile to cut off the elk heading to the timber once the pressure starts.
There are a lot of road hunters in that area. Have fun.

I’ll see you out there same week. We will be all around Helena and White Sulphur Springs. Hopefully not too crowded.

Hopefully not too crowded? This summer it seems like there is people all over, and when the orange army shows up, it's non stop traffic and people until the end of season. I've seen people in places this year, I've never seen anyone before, so be prepared to have company.

My hunting partner is a local. He hasn’t run into as many people during archery as he did last year. All bets are off for general firearms in any state though

Region one full of elk and easy terrain 🤙 know it all to well if you want solitude you will seldom see a soul and have a chance at something great and see incredible country you will also wish you were in another region😂 I still visit for solitude and history and a chance at finding something very big 76CCA9D1-271E-4819-BB12-EA463A2FE429.jpeg14D2FBE9-9363-4538-9AB5-414B608EE44D.jpegFA05F825-7D1D-4E54-AEF6-2408280D9ECB.jpeg846FEDB7-C3EF-4BE0-B2AD-A30CE4DD80FF.jpeg0999877F-726D-428F-AC6B-3CF9103220DA.jpegA539DAE9-3F44-4525-BBFD-EF0195B1DBB2.jpeg

I’ve heard mixed reports on pressure this year. I did spend several weekends scouting and cutting poles in 319/332 and we seen a lot of archery hunters. But it’s like anything they all group up spots where they locate elk. I have a 399-00 cow tag Im hoping to fill later in the season. I will second on how dry it is this, it’s the driest fall I have seen as 7 years as a resident and 4 years as a non-resident before. Good luck out there

What is so crazy to me is that according to multiple weather services and Gohunt, most of SW MT is actually above average in the last few months for precipitation and even annual precip is normal or above normal. I wonder if the temperature has just been above normal as well. I live in Bozeman and it definitely hasn't been nearly as wet as it has been in past seasons and I definitely haven't seen hardly any moisture at all. Not sure why so many places are showing above average precip...? I mean tomorrow is Oct. 6 and it's supposed to be almost 80° for most of the week. Slight chance of rain Sunday.

It might be because we had a fairly dry winter and the warm temperatures as you mentioned. It’s definitely dry from my general observations.
